If you need to get away from it all, this is perfect. The chalet is lovely, with decking right by the river, so you can sit there at night listening to the river. There are woods on the other side and two small bridges to get over there. The owners garden is beautiful and you can use the outdoor seating and gazebo. There is a polytunnel building with table tennis, bar football, snooker, bikes for kids, wet suits and a dingy to go into the river (tethered). So this is a great place for walkers, families, couples, anyone!
We did a great local walk, Cadair Berwyn, 6 miles, absolutely amazing views and worth doing. Also Pistyll Waterfall (fantastic) is just a mile or so down the road, by Cadair Berwyn walk. The waterfall is amazing.
The Plough pub and the chip shop in Llanrhaeadr ym Mochnant do very nice food, so all in all a great place.
The owners are so nice and accommodating, lending us hats, wet suits, and we were welcomed by homemade scones and a bottle of wine - Perfect ~ you have to stay here!!
Three night stay in a cosy chalet with the river right in front of decking area which has lighting on the water and seating area. Fire pit for of an evening to keep warm. Chalet was equipped with all that we needed. Brian the owner couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful which made us feel relaxed from the moment we arrived. Watching the abundance of wildlife was excellent we seen spotted fly catchers, yellow and grey wagtails, a dipper, buzzards and a great spotted woodpecker. Walking around the owners garden was breath taking with its numerous seating areas in idyllic places. Enjoyed the games room, table tennis and pool plus a dingy which was so much fun. We had the opportunity to fish if we wanted too also. Outside the chalet was an array of garden furniture including a very comfortable rattan bed which was a great touch. Outstanding location, we will return soon,

This is my 3rd visit here and I have to leave another sparkling review as this place is so idyllic. We stayed 4 nights this time and it felt like a week, so relaxed were we.
We go gadget free so had cards, dominoes, colouring and a guitar to keep us entertained. We ventured out once to the waterfall but we're reluctant to leave the bubbling lull of the river again.
Equipped with absolutely everything you could need, even outdoor blankets, torches, firewood, cushions, beach towels etc it makes packing much simpler
Marion and Brian feel like relatives now and our 8yr old follows them around the garden 'helping'
We are always sad to leave but then always fast to rebook as we don't ever want to miss out in our little haven.
Thank you both, we miss you already!
Just got back from our weekend stay at the Riverside Retreat. This was our second visit. So relaxing, so close to nature and so much fun, Brian and Marian were once again wonderful hosts, passing on tips and stories of local interest. We did some amazing walks along Waterfall Road to Pistell Rhaedr ( the nearby waterfall) and made our way to the hidden lake. What a joy!
Back at the cabin we couldn't get enough of watching yellow breasted wagtails cavorting over the river , catching insects and just showing off! There were blue tits nesting in a box off the side of the cabin, swifts nesting in the garage, robins and
even a woodpecker and birds of prey soaring above us. Brian kindly lent us his binoculars and a bird book to help with identifications. It was also great keeping warm on the jetty with the woodburner to take the edge off the chillier evenings.
G and T's also help!
This is the second time we stayed at Riverside Retreat. After our first magical stay I had longed to go back but we couldn’t quite manage it as I was blessed with our second daughter a month after our stay at Riverside Retreat and I waiting for her to be old enough to enjoy it when my Brother inlaw and his wife came to visit and wanted to visit Wales after seeing our lovely photos. They were only here for a short time so we couldn’t stay at the Riverside Retreat for as long as I liked but the time we did spend there was action packed and we managed to cover a lot of things in the short time that we did stay. Even in the rain everything was still as beautiful as I remembered. We went up Snowdon, we visited Pistyll Waterfall and Lake Vyrnwy.
Marian and Brian was as warm and welcoming as always. They feel like old friends just after two visits. Your property is just amazing. I think everyone should visit it. I’m sure we will be back soon.
We had a lovely stay in Riverside Retreat. We stayed for 2 nights as a treat for our anniversary. We were greeted warmly by Marian and Brian with Welsh cakes (which were lovely), and were given lots of recommendations. Lake Vyrnwy and Pistyll Rhaeadr are a must! We wish we could stay for longer and will be bringing some friends back in the summer :)
We have just got back from the Riverside Retreat. Marian and Brian are wonderful hosts, making you feel instantly relaxed and at home. The cabin, whilst not suitable for persons of 6' and above due to the height of the ceiling and doors, was really well equipped, with everything you could possibly need for a short break. From gas hob, electric oven , toaster microwave and fridge you couldnt want for more on the cooking front.
However, when you get out of the cabin you have the most amazing area in front of you. You are surrounded by the most beautiful plants, trees and flowers. There is an outside day bed which looks stunning and, in the right weather conditions, would be a wonderful experience.
At the end of the cabin is a decking area with a bench, table and firepit overlooking the River Rhaedr. We sat each night overlooking the river, fire beside us, drink in hand, just letting the noise of the river soothe our nerves and help us to unwind. Even in the rain there is an awning to keep you dry.
Marian and Brian were both so friendly and helpful, offering advice(that we wish we had heeded!!) and information on eveything you need to know to get the most out of your experience in this genuine gem of a spot.
The only thing that could have made our wonderful experience any better would have been to see chickens, and possibly ducks, wandering freely around providing fresh free range eggs to be bought for an alfresco breakfast on the jetty!!
