I stayed two nights in the Brecon Lodge at the beginning of a fantastic trip around Wales and it was indeed a very warm and nice welcome. I arrived at the afternoon, tired from the flight and some sightseeing in Cardiff and was offered a cool drink and a break in the beautiful garden. The room and especially the spacious bathroom were nice, clean and cosy. The breakfast was perfect. I had a good time and received also some hints on what to see and where to go in Cardiff and surrounding.

Stayed here for a weekend visit to Cardiff for match day - very warm and welcoming hosts at this B&B. Passed on good local info from train station info to advice on good pub/restaurants in local area. Good twin attic room, with lovely bathroom. TV with tea and coffee in the room. Excellent cooked breakfast, with cereals, orange juice, toast and plenty of tea and coffee available (really nice coffee too). Good location, with short walk down to the sea front and we managed to park outside of the accommodation. Would definitely book again and would recommend to friends and family.

Room Tip: Attic room was at back of hotel, very quiet.

Came down to do a 2 day rescue course at the Cardiff White Water Centre (January!!) and this B&B was ideal. Warm, piping hot water for the bath to warm up after a day in cold water and the hosts were terrific.
We originally booked on a deal but realised that included a contnental breakfast, no problem, modest charge and a full english (or maybe welsh) breakfast was made available.
WiFi worked perfectly, room was warm and comfy.
Certainly go back again as Penarth is an ideal location for exploring Cardiff (and Penarth of course).

Penarth, Wales is a great location from which to explore Cardiff, Brecon Beacons to the north, or the coast walk--which passes through town. It has a quaint town center, pier, and a redeveloped marina full of shopping and restaurants. There aren't many places to stay in Penarth, but the Brecon Lodge is undoubtedly the best. We booked and stayed in the large room with an ocean view on the third floor. The room was very well-equipped and had a spacious bathroom. Bedding was very comfortable and the room immaculate. We were alone in the B&B (the owners were unexpectedly away, but made arrangements for us to be met and cared for by their daughter and son-in-law who live nearby) and were able to look into an adjoining room, which was quite small although also clean and well-equipped. I'd definitely book the larger room--it is worth the price differential. Breakfast was cooked to order (eggs, bangers, bacon, etc) with a good range of cold cereal, yogurt, pastries, and other options. Other than the dining room there does not appear to be any other common space for lodgers, although I could be wrong about this--we did not want to venture into other areas of the large house without being sure we were allowed to). The location is great--on a quiet street next to a large park on a bluff overlooking the ocean, but within easy walking distance of downtown in one direction, and the pier and Esplanade in the other. It is also possible to walk across Cardiff harbour to the beautifully redeveloped area of Cardiff from Penarth--it's a couple of miles but a very nice walk. I would recommend Brecon Lodge to anyone.

Room Tip: The attic room is the only room I'd book. It has a nice view, is spacoius, and has a large bath...

I had written to the owners to enquire into booking a room for November 2013. I had a look on the website - availability was OK - price listed was £69 for the room per night. I replied to the owner Anthony to explain that I would be travelling from the North with my wife to go to the Wales v Argentina rugby match that weekend, also to confirm the price and to go ahead with the booking. The owner wrote back to say that unfortunately he had quoted an inaccurate price for the International Series of matches being due to a late date change of date by the organisers in Cardiff. The correct price being £89 per night for 2 persons inclusive of a Full Breakfast.. I couldn't believe the audacity of the owner. So please beware. This certainly feels like rip off Britain! - the price quoted on the Brecon Lodge website certainly in this instance isn't as listed - the correct price is whatever the owner feels they can charge.
We keep a welcome in the hillside? As a Welsh person it has left a very bitter taste in the mouth. Not a very Warm Welsh Welcome.

This place was wonderful. The breakfast was great and the owners were friendly. The only reason I didn't give them 5/5 is because the ceiling was a little low for the monkstone room. It's really easy to get into Cardiff by bus, we really wish we had spent more time here.

I was made to feel very welcome here.
My room overlooked the park, with the sea peeking through the trees.
A peaceful location that made it easy to have a relaxing weekend.
There was plenty of choice for breakfast with excellent coffee.
