Recently had a 2 night stay at Mill Valley. Room was cosy yet spacious, luxurious, comfortable with a lovely bathroom and fireplace and a fab location in downtown Mill Valley. Great breakfasts and the nightly free wine and cheese reception is a lovely touch, as are the free bikes on offer. We took advantage of the opportunity and took a leisurely bike ride to nearby Sausalito and were also just a short drive away from Muir Woods and San Francisco. In addition, the customer service was outstanding and every member of staff went above and beyond to accommodate us. Thoroughly enjoyed our short stay here. Lots of pottering to do in the immediate area too, great boutiques, restaurants, cinema etc. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: Next time, I would probably ask for a room away from the car park as our room didn't feel very p...

My wife and I just returned from a 5 night stay at the Mill Valley Inn. From our initial booking to checking out, we had a very pleasurable experience.

My wife spent some time when she first called to inquire about this place asking about the various rooms and the views they afforded. My wife talked to Molly who was Gandhi-esque patient in attempting to answer the myriad of questions my wife had. Knowing our concerns and desires, she recommended room 22 in the Creek Side building and having now stayed there, it was a spot on recommendation. It was one of the best rooms in the entire inn. Rooms 23, 24 and 25 (a much larger room taking up the entire 3rd floor) would also be good rooms as they are located in the same peaceful area.

Our room was way in the back in the separate Creek Side building surrounded by dense trees and foliage. We loved the woodsy ambiance of the place. It felt like being up in the mountain in a cabin. We had a wonderful porch just outside our room that we really enjoyed sitting on to enjoy the outdoors and take in the wonderful, woodsy view. There was a small stream that flowed right past our room as well which was nice. This building and this particular room was very serene. Several nights we ate takeout out on the porch and it turned out to be one of our favorite parts of the trip. It was a very pleasurable way to unwind after all the day's activities.

Our room itself was clean and updated and included a small refrigerator and a coffee maker. The bathroom was spacious and included both a standalone deep tub and a shower stall. One of the best parts about our room was the very comfortable Duxiana bed. This bed was very comfortable.

This inn is located in downtown Mill Valley and is walking distance from the entire downtown area with its countless restaurants, art galleries and an eclectic assortment of other quaint shops.

This is an amazing town to walk around in whether it's just in the downtown shop area or further into the residential part of the neighborhood. Mill Valley is a fascinating area with some of the most interesting and varied architecture we have ever seen. No two houses are the same and every one of them is interesting. If you are a hiker you can hike all the way to the ocean through the beautiful Muir Woods in about 4 1/2 hours; one of the nicest, most varied hikes we've ever done. If that's too ambitious, you can cut it down to much shorter hikes. You can do this hike, and many others without driving anywhere as they are nearby and only steps from the inn.

My wife and I always chose a place that has an extensive continental breakfast as it's a convenient and economical way to start your day. The breakfast here was excellent, one of the better ones we've had.

Another thing that's always been important to us is convenient self parking. We've stayed in Sausalito and other places where there is no self parking at all. You are forced to valet park every time with the added expense and worried of theft and your car isn't even parked in the same area as your hotel. In Sausalito, they were parking our car blocks away. This place has abundant self parking only steps from your room. It's a very convenient amenity.

In closing, we have to mention the amazing customer service and personal flourishes that made us feel pampered and special. We had mentioned that we were going to be there celebrating our anniversary. When we arrived there was a bottle of chilled Champagne and a to die for two person sized chocolate cake waiting for us. As we checked in on Mother's Day, there was also a nice Mother's day note. Nice touches that we really appreciated. We'd like to make special mention of Kelly, Stella & Evelio who, to us, personified what truly amazing customer service is (and should be). There was nothing they wouldn't do to make our visit memorable and special and they bent over backwards to address our every need. They were wonderful and the Mill Valley Inn is lucky to have them representing their inn. We will definitely be back.

Room Tip: You should try and be Creek Side building to the rear. Any room in that building is better than in...

The Mill Valley Inn has a great location right in Mill Valley, but it doesn't feel like it's in an urban environment. The grounds are beautiful with Redwood trees and a burbling stream that's right on the property. We've stayed there twice (once in April 2014, once in Aug. 2013) both times happened to be on a Wednesday because we were going to see a show at the Sweetwater.
Both times we got there for right around 4pm check in so that we could take full advantage of the property. The self serve wine and cheese that they offer on their deck is a nice touch and the deck has a nice view of the property.
The rooms are nicely decorated and very comfortable.
The staff that work there are very accomodating and friendly.
The only drawback of this place is the price, but you do get an excellent experience, and the fact that you normally can't seem to book 1 night if it's a Friday or Saturday - you need minimum 2 nights.
I highly recommend staying here if you have the opportunity and it's within your budget.

Room Tip: Rooms in the back building have a nicer view than those in the main building.

I gagged when my wife told me how much our night cost here. Yeah, it's kinda cute, with the cottages and a couple of redwoods. But inside the rooms were distinctly 1980s vintage, and the parking situation is absurd. They have these tiny spots in a garage and if you dont have a mini-cooper, you may spend half your night trying to figure out how to fit your car in. and meanwhile the rooms and cottages are like 40 feet from the garage so its not like some remote mountain retreat. And service/check-in consists of a tiny office off the garage. It just makes no sense what they charge, except that it's close to san francisco, and inside MIll Valley, which is kinda pretentious... just not a fan (obviously)

Dear jpicunko,

First of all, thank you for staying at the inn, and we appreciate you taking the time to post about your experiences while here in Mill Valley. We are so sorry that you had any impression of our inn as a remote mountain retreat, is that something you read about us online? If there is anything in our power to do something about that, we’d like to. Though we are located in downtown Mill Valley and do boast very serene ambience, with Redwood trees and a creek that are located on site, I too would feel mislead if I read somewhere that we were located in a remote location in the mountains. I’m sorry that we were not what you expected.

One of our greatest advantages, though, is being centrally located in downtown Mill Valley, which is minutes from Muir Woods, Mt. Tamalpais and Stinson Beach. Also, being in downtown Mill Valley means that you are able to take advantage of the plethora of dining options located around the inn. We also do our best to focus on maximizing our guest’s experience by offering the best amenities we possibly can and ensuring that all of our guest rooms are thoroughly relaxing, comfortable, and up to the high standards that we set for ourselves. Again, I’m sorry we were not what you expected. If you’d like to discuss this, any further, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly. I would be more than happy to speak with you.

Kind regards,
Justin Flake
General Manager

When I am on business, I like to stay in boutique hotels where there is plenty to walk too. The bonuses are: cocktail hour, real expresso, lox with bagels, fireplaces. Very accommodating staff. I have since gone back when I have business on that side of the bay. Tucked away and convenient.

My fiancé and I only had time for an overnight get-away, and the Mill Valley Inn was perfect. We stayed in an adorable cottage with a fireplace, a huge well-appointed bathroom, and all the comforts we needed. The staff was amazing from check-in to check-out. At check-in, the gal at the front desk helped us with restaurant recommendations, and another gentleman escorted us to our room. I mentioned that we were there for my fiancé's birthday, and SURPRISE! We got a knock on our door that evening with a mini gourmet chocolate cake and bottle of wine. At check-out, another wonderful staff member gave us breakfast recommendations and ok'd us to stay parked at the inn while we adventured around downtown Mill Valley for a bit. We would definitely visit Mill Valley Inn again, and we recommend it to anyone else looking for romantic, relaxing stay in a quaint area surrounded by restaurants, boutiques, good coffee spots, and hiking.

My husband and six year old daughter stayed at the Mill Valley Inn recently and had a very pleasant time. The hotel is located in the center of Mill Valley, literally one minute walk from the center of town, shops and restaurants. We walked to a small park near the library, in the middle of a cluster of redwoods, which was wonderful.

Our room was big (our child slept on a pull-out sofa bed) and very comfortable. The breakfast choices were many, you can make your own waffles (a big hit with our daughter), and the service was great.

In fact, one of the things we most appreciated the excellent customer service. Everyone there was extremely nice, available, and friendly. When the parking lot was full, we parked on the street and the woman at the front desk came out and put money in the meter for us. Now that is service!!

We will definitely return to this gem of a hotel.
