Holiday Inn Express Mill Valley San Francisco Area

I stayed here just 1 night for business. The check-in went really quickly and I got to choose if I wanted a room on the 1st or 2nd floor. The room was clean and spacious.

The only area for improvement that I saw was that the bathroom floor could use a good scrubbing... it wasn't that the tiled floor hadnt been swept or mopped, but it was stained.

If you want to be close to the Golden Gate and Sausalito but not have to pay $200/night, the Holiday Inn Express is a great choice. I would stay here again if I were in the area.

We stayed in the hotel right before Christmas and requested a two bed non-smoking room on an upper floor. We received a non-smoking two queen room facing the courtyard and were very happy with the location. It was near the ice machine but we didn't hear a thing.

Pros:
Breakfast was actually better than we expected. They had peeled hard boiled eggs, packets of oatmeal, and bagels in addition to the usual breakfast foods.
Nice linens and thick towels.
Quiet room facing the courtyard.
Room size larger than average.

Cons:
Bed was too soft for us.
Sliding door to balcony had to be slammed shut before it would actually lock.
First floor of our building facing the bridge reeked of smoke; luckily the second floor smelled much better.
Wireless works but you must find a good connection as there are several networks to choose from. Networks are identified by a room number.
Bathroom is functional but small.

I would stay here again if I was in the neighborhood and didn't want to splurge. We paid about $129 by calling the hotel directly instead of booking via the website which quoted $160+.

We stayed here four nights, just before the Thanksgiving holiday.

After having read the reviews, we specifically asked for a quiet, more renovated room. The condition of the room was pretty good, recently renovated, granite sinks in an updated bathroom. Unfortunately, on our first night there, the toilet overflowed with very little provocation and there is a sign in the bathrooms that even warns guest that the toilets do not handle paper waste very easily. After learning to triple flush the toilet, we had no further problems with the bathroom.

The best thing about this hotel is the location, which is close to numerous beautiful hiking trails in the area outside the city. However the hotel sits within close proximity to a highway overpass that make most of the rooms quite noisy. Even after asking for a quiet room , we were a little closer to the freeway overpass than I would have liked.

The front desk staff was efficient and friendly. Breakfast were for my taste, too sugary. Pastry, muffins, bagels, fruit loops and granola and yogurt all loaded with sugar. However, there was also fresh fruit; banannas apples, oranges. There is a restaurant close by called the Dipsea which is quite good and served up one of the best mexican chorizo omelets I've ever eaten.

We did sleep well and the beds were confortable enough, towels in good condition and had good water pressure. We were on the first floor with sliders to the outside, which may have helped with the noise but always made me worry about security. There are only two levels and I would guess the higher level has more problem with the freeway noise. The rooms closest to the Lobby, are the farthest away from the noisy overpass and I would guess the upstairs units off these would be the best as far as veiws and noise were concerned.

Maid service was quite good, however we did notice a few ants in our room.

All in all, not the worst place, but we probably would not return.

The hotel was dirty, shabby, and mismanaged. The television satelite goes out often and there were problems with the internet service as well. They allow pets and I was badly bitten by fleas. The manager claimed this is impossible because they have a pest control company spray for fleas. He is in denial that the fleas hatch out on days when the pest control company is else where. The hotel is shabby the hall carpets worn out and the management is not responsive to complaints. The house keeping is badly managed and does a poor job and they are very noisey as well so do not plan on sleeping in. Housekeeping carts litter the hallways after five until the next morning along with dirty mops and smelly mop water... pleasant this place is not. The front desk staff is cold and jaded.

Avoid this place. It is over priced and often smells like roach spray.

I would just like to say how fantastic we found the Holiday Inn hotel in Mill Valley. The rooms were both large and clean, with a nice bathroom with powerful shower. Parking was free and generally you could park outside your room so you don't have to cart your bags far. Breakfast was excellent and served buffet style so you could have as much as you like. Only a short drive to San Francisco (3 miles to Golden Gate Bridge), also only a short drive to Muir Woods for those who like to escape from the city. Would recommend going off the Highway 1 before the Golden Gate Bridge to get a fantastic view of the Bridge with Alcatraz and SF in the background.

When you think Holiday Inn Express, It can truly be hit or miss....but this hotel is a gem.....the rooms, in my opinion, better than the "W" on Lexington in NYC. Better size, better style and better size.

The decor is modern, quaint and a great price.......a chain with a boutique feel.

You can feel comfortable, chic and well rested in this extremely clean, central and cozy hotel.
