“Good value for money”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 February 2013

Clean basic rooms, good shower, rooms are tiny but do the job, staff very helpful. Pool next door at 10 euros day for use is a bit pricey. Heating is far too hot and cannot be adjusted in rooms, so we left the window open. Very convenient for the chair lift up & down to the town, but this stops around 6pm so a long walk up after a meal in the evening. The coffee ending machine was not working. Found this very good value for money.

Room Tip: All rooms similar, but those near reception desk will be noisy from other guests.

Pros: Very friendly and helpful staff. I would love to have given the hotel a great review as they were so welcoming. Clean and although basic, nicely decorated and not tatty. Good shower, plenty of hot water. 15% discount at kit hire shop on same road. Near some bars and restaurants. Great location for getting up and down into the main square during the day (20-30 m from Parador chairlift intermediate stop). There are free ski lockers and wifi (but very slow). You can reserve underground parking in the garage next door (€12 per day). No danger of being cold in the hotel. Couple of small shops across the road for sweets and crisps etc.

Cons: Very basic hotel. Room was absolutely tiny and as others have commented, paper thin walls. Too small for 3 people with ski kit (we booked the triple room, room no.2, so there weren't any larger rooms they could move us to). Expensive for what it was - €210 for 2 nights (Thursday and Friday night, mid-Jan, resort mostly empty). Didn't feel it was value for money. The mattresses are very hard, so unless you are quite a heavy person, they are not at all comfortable. The heating is OTT like every ski hotel I've ever been to, but you can't control the room temperature from the radiator, so you have to leave windows open. All the rooms are on one floor and the reception desk is in the middle, so every room gets to hear everyone else arriving and leaving. Felt mislead by the advert - there is no mention of extra cost for using the little swimming pool and hot tub in the building next door, but this is €10 per person per day - not worth it. "Supermarket" 10m away is a tiny shop across the road where you can buy sweets, a few drinks, crisps, biscuits and butter, but not much else. The Parador chairlift stops at 1730, so to get to the main square in the evening (which is where you have to go if you want anything more than the handful of bars and restaurants on the same road as the Duende Blanco) you have to walk down LOTS of flights of stairs or quite a long walk down steep roads to get to the lower zone and the main square. Of course, that means you have to walk back up again later...

Room Tip: All rooms on same floor, ask for one towards the back for marginally less foot traffic.

We paid a very small amount for a double room and were pleasantly surprised. It was very small but it was warm, clean and the shower was powerful and hot. There was not much space but you get a ski locker so this was not an issue. We paid €12 per day for parking which was convenient and we were allowed to leave it there as late as we liked on the day of departure. The location is only 50m from the chair lift that takes you to the main gondola. We didn't make use of the swimming pool but it looked nice from outside.
