the hotel is not only old - it's dead old. no radiators in rooms - no way you dry up your cloth or ski boots; no spa, even it is mentioned - instead there is a room with wet sealing, the temperature there is about +5 degree. Jacuzzi is switched off but you can use sauna if you like getting outside the sauna in 5 degree... no parking place - few ones are always occupied. the personnel is extremely rude and lying - we called to booking.com to try to change the hotel and they re-sent us the hotel answer - the staff was blaming us in trying to leave for no reason and that we are served fine.

Room Tip: just choose another hotel

Our stay at the Gran Hotel Monachil was good for what happened. We originally were supposed to stay at the Apartmentos Bulgaria, which I highly don't recommend every staying there. Gran Hotel Monachil was where we were to pickup our keys and before we went to check out those places, which were sketchy to say the least. Luckily the staff was accommodating to letting us switch our booking over to the Hotel Monachil instead. It was reasonably priced given that we got breakfast included and the hotel had a wifi area. You get your money's worth I think with the slopeside location, we never had to walk up the hill, but rather ski in and out.

The hotel looks impressive from the outside but inside is in need of a facelift. The reception is poorly lit and the reception staff could have tried to be a bit more helpful and welcoming. Our room was OK but again it needed attention e.g. curtain rail falling off, noisy hot air heating system, mouldy bathroom. However after a days skiing it was adequate. The buffet breakfast was excellent with a good choice of hot and cold food, as was the evening buffet. My only criticism would be that the "hot" section was luke warm. We did however find a microwave in the dining which solved the problem. There are a couple of nice bars in the hotel and the prices are reasonable. The hotel is at the side of the piste, so if you are capable of skiing reds you could say it's ski out - ski in. Just make sure that at the end of the day you know where to exit the piste to the hotel, because if you miss the exit (as we did due to a fog) it's a long walk back up to the hotel from the village in ski boots! Your lift pass allows you to take a chairlift from the village (carrying skis), and you can get off at the halfway point which brings you much closer to the hotel, but the queue at the end of the day is pretty long so be prepared for a wait. There is a sauna which costs 7 euros and you need to give them one hours notice. They advertise a jacuzzi but unfortunately it was not working at the time of our visit.

Stayed here for 1 night. For the price (65 euros), can't expect too much from a hotel, but have stayed in much better B&B/hostel for much lower price.

Pros:
* Breakfast included
- Nothing fancy - in fact the bread tasted a little old
* Good place if you just need to sleep after skiing/snowboarding, or plan on spending your evenings outside the hotel

Cons:
* No hairdryer in rooms
- Can loan from reception with 5 dollar deposit
* No tea/coffee making facilities in rooms
* Bathrooms
- Shower space poorly designed - nowhere to put your shampoo etc
* Wi-fi wasn't working at all - whole hostel
- Said was due to bad weather, but when weather cleared up - wasn't working either for 2-3 days at least
* Difficult to get to the hotel if the chairlifts are not operating. Have to walk quite a distance.

I didn't expect much for the price paid. No big problems generally, but definitely not impressive, especially with the wi-fi problem.

I've been in this hotel for my first snow adventure.

It's not easy to a Sierra Nevada's first time comer to find the correct route to reach it, but after asking a policeman, we managed to get there.

The rooms were little spacious and the beds weren't the worst I had ever sleep. The wrong thing about it was the high temperature inside and the brown water whenever I bathed myself with hot water.

The staff was pleasant, but we rarely asked anything from them.

The car parking is paid apart, but its money well spent to prevent ice damages to our car.

They have (as well as other hotels nearby, I presume) a good facility for us to equip with lockers to hold our sky equipment. The worst thing is getting to the city center and from then to the sky park.

Good breakfast and dinner, but by the end I was already tired of seeing always the same desserts (it seemed to me that they were the same from one day to the other...).

All in all, it revealed to be an economic choice, good for experienced skiers not wanting to spend much money in housing, but it was to far (to us) from the city center.
