“Fat Mama's saved our life!”
Reviewed 7 December 2013

Arriving in Natchez late at night, and trying to avoid another drive, went into Natchez which appeared closed. Just about to give up, when we came across Fat Mam's. Really friendly welcome, and after a bit of chat with these strange English people, we were invited to try a po boy sandwich. Read a lot about these in James Lee Burke books and the like, so eventually tried two varieties, the ham and cheese and the beef. Really good value, although in my opinion the ham and cheese was the better taste. Overall a good late night surprise.

“Great Tamales, but that's about it”
Reviewed 23 November 2013 via mobile

Great Tamales but little else on menu. Colorful atmosphere, seat yourself and head to counter to order kind of place. Cold beer and best tamales I've had in years ... Hats off to Fat Mama's ... Hope to visit again in the future

“Pleasantly surprised”
Reviewed 23 November 2013

We stopped in here just to check it out for a late afternoon snack before dinner. Loved it. The tamales are delicious and local beer was great. Informal atmosphere and simple menu are appealing.

“Frankly disappointing”
Reviewed 18 November 2013

Traveling through Mississippi, we'd heard great things about Fat Mama's Tamales and looked forward to tucking into a basket. Really disappointing. Whilte the decor is fun, that's about all we can give a thumbs-up to. Coming from Southern California, where great tamale places are legion, we've never had tamales so utterly flavorless. Sadly, even the hot sauce didn't help. Lo and behold, overhearing an exchange between a customer and employee, we learned that the tamales are of the frozen, mass-produced variety, not the hand-made kind that put the place on the map. The margarita my wife had was likewise devoid of personality. If they'd go back to their tried-and-true hand-made tamales, we might think about returning next time we're in Natchez.

“Fun. Good. Quick.”
Reviewed 17 November 2013 via mobile

Four of us took a day trip to Natchez yesterday. Two of us had eaten at Fat Mama's so we recommended the Grinko Pie. Three in our party had the pie and the fourth had the Taco Soup. We all enjoyed our lunch. It's a good place for a quick lunch.
