“Opulence at its best!”
Reviewed 7 July 2008

I booked the General Forrest room as part of a week long "Girlfriend's Getaway" week long tour of Southern Plantations. We began our trip with Dunleith. I had stayed in this very room 6 years before and could not wait to jump in the wirlpool jacuzzi tub at the end of a long 6 hour drive!
The opulence of the room blew my friend away! She absolutely fell head over heels for the 15 ft. ceiling, crowned four-poster bed, and 3 massive sized- ornately draped floor to ceiling windows which could be opened to let one out onto the wrap-around porch outside our room. Not even to mention, the huge fireplace and 9 ft. mirror above the mantle as the focal point of the room. When she looked around to see where she could hang her garment bag she was thrilled to find a 10 ft. amoire to the left of the door stuffed full of amenities to make our stay more enjoyable!
If you are staying in Natchez or are just looking to be pampered for a breath-taking getaway, I highly recommend booking at Dunleith Plantation.

I stayed at this B&B for 3 days in June 2008. This was a work trip and the reservations were made by someone else. This review is for Room 502.
The room is located in the main house, at the top, in what used to be the attic. There are a lot of stairs so if you have difficulty climbing stairs, this room is not for you. The room is average in size, with a nice queen size bed, a table with 2 chairs, and a desk. The bed has a firm mattress, the pillows need to be replaced. One was too soft, the other too hard. There is only one small window in this room, so it's very dark in there.
The bathroom had 2 bathrobes for use while staying there, and a jacuzzi tub. There is also a coffee maker in the room, an ironing board w/ iron, and a flashlight (I guess in case they lose power).
There is a wrap around porch with rocking chairs to enjoy a relaxing afternoon.

The nicer and bigger rooms are on the 2nd floor of the main house, so ask for one of those if they are available. They have huge windows, and they are much nicer than the rest.

Breakfast at the Castle is fantastic. Lots of food and very good. The grounds are gorgeous, and included in the room rate is a tour of the main floor of the house.
Definitely recommed this place if you like to stay in a place with a great history and nice accomodations.

the grounds are lovely, the restaurant was great, however the mini blinds were very dirty. Upon arrival, the bed I was to sleep in in the main house was broken, had to change rooms to the third floor. this place needs a good spring cleaning. the upholstered chair in the bathroom on the third floor room looked like somebody vomited on it. all other upholstery could have also used a cleaning. walls were in need of cleaning. breakfast was better than Monmouth. I would stay here again if it was cleaner, it was relaxing and enjoyable and I am a light sleeper.

We stayed one night at Dunelith on our way from New Orleans to Memphis, TN. Our experience was first class all the way. From the moment we stepped in to check in to the moment we had to check out we had excellent service.

We stayed in the General Forrest room which over looked the front of the house. The room was huge and it was beautiful. We had excellent water pressure in our shower. We had neighbors who had arrived late in the General Jackson room and we could hear someone snoring all night. I also heard music in the middle of the night that I assumed came from cars driving past the house on the main road. And our in laws had the General Dalhgren room and had some problems with water pressure. But these were tiny problems and did not take anything away from our experience.

Take time to explore the grounds. But also take time to just relax on the second floor veranda. I was able to spend some time in a rocking chair reading after breakfast. Breakfast was excellent. The main house itself is stunning. Our tour guide for the house tour was the best. Dinner at the Castle Restaurant was also excellent.

I took my mother, who is celebrating remission of breast cancer, to Natchez 2/24/08! We stayed on the 2nd floor, General Lee, for one night. The first thing we noticed was just how wonderful the staff was to us the minute we arrived! We checked in and escorted to our room. As another review stated, if you are in the main house or 2nd floor remember there is no elevator. This is an antebellum home and the experiernce outweigh the stairs. Once we walked into our room Seth, our bellman, helped us get acclimated to the features of the room and the home. The feeling that your stepping back into time is there immediately. Once we settled in we fixed a drink and went out onto the balcony, which continues around the entire house and is shared by 3 other rooms. They have white wicker rocking chairs and tables around the porch. The view was wonderful and you can't help but relax and enjoy your surroundings. The bedroom was very comfortable and the bath had a jacuzzi tub which was very nice and large.

In the morning once we checked out we enjoyed a wonderful southern breakfast buffet in The Castle restaurant. The food was wonderful and was enough for the rest of the day.

Great relaxing stay! Thank you Dunleith!!

I just spent a night at Dunletih a week ago. Went at the perfect time ... had the whole main house to ourselves. Only other people there were staying in the dependency.

House and grounds are absolutely fairy tale-like. There are four rooms on the second floor; Robert E. Lee, Nathan Bedford Forrest, Stonewall Jackson and the General Dahlgren. the last being largest of the rooms. Nice period furnishings, wonderful slipper tub, however, there were sine signs of wear and tear on the draoerues . Bed was a bit hard and the pillows could have been better. Only real complaint was with the shower was terrible.

This being said, these few thingsl paled in significance to everything that was right at the mansion. Staff were friendly, responsive and couldn't have been nicer. Breakfast at The Castle Restaurant was first class. First floor is furnished and available for tours. As a guest, a tour is part of the package. Take advantage of it. The house as well as its occupants have a very interesting history.

I would recommend it highly. if you can go off-peak and during the week i believe the experience will be that much more special.

We just returned from a two day stay at Dunleith for our anniversary. This was a much anticipated visit and I am pleased to say that all our expectations were exceeded! The staff was the epitome of southern hospitality. Our room, the General Dahlgren, was gorgeous - well appointed, very clean, and spacious. The food at the Castle was scrumptious - breakfast was a feast! No lunch required! We highly recommend this B&B for the ultimate experience in pampering and Southern hospitality.
