“Fascinating self-guided tour”

The self-guided tour can only be done properly with a map or other form of guide - we used an audio CD that was loaned to us by the Oak Hill B&B, where we stayed. The CD gives directions and an excellent narration of what we are seeing. Watch the road carefully -- the guide post numbers are often hidden by overgrown shrubs and bushes and sometimes set back from the roadway by as much as 10 feet.

Check out the Natchez Visitor Center for more information and guide materials.

One of my favorite places. We actually went there twice during the visit. You definitely need to either buy one of the cemetery books (they have a really good one at several of the home museums priced at $39 or you can buy a paper back version for $10) or do some internet research to fully appreciate the tour.

A beautiful place to walk. Many historic persons are buried here - you will recognize many of the family names. At least two Confederate sections with many Confederate graves scattered throughout.

We visited the cemetery in October 2012. It was a rainy afternoon. We are always inspired when we walk thru a pioneer cemetery...so much history. Be sure to take time to read the headstones, especially the inscription for the "Angel who turns around"...a sad story.

We spent about 1/2 hour driving through the very narrow roads in the cemetery admiring the beautiful wrought iron works/enclosures. Just beautiful. We hadn't seen anything like this before. We, unfortunately, didn't have a map or guide of any sort, so we just wandered. But it was still worth the time.
