“A pleasure to stay here”
Reviewed 14 June 2013 via mobile

We bicycled 70 miles in hot sun to reach this inn, so you can imagine the joy of having free soft drinks and ice, air conditioning, and a safe place to store our bikes for 3 nights. Rates here are a good value too.
Mimi owns and manages the B&B and is a human encyclopedia of local information. Breakfasts are excellent and location of the inn is ideal: about 2 blocks from Bluff Park overlooking the Mississippi River, a short walk to the best restaurants. It's also quite close to the extensive Visitors' Center. The popular Fat Momma's tex-mex eatery with "Knock you naked margaritas" is just around the corner. We don't have anything critical to say about this inn, except that we had to leave it to continue our bike tour.

I stayed 2 nights at the Wensel House when I was in town for a conference at the convention center. It's located only 3 short blocks from the center and in the heart of the historic district. I loved the rooms--antique 4 poster bed and other period furniture. The owner is very friendly and quite flexible with whatever you need. There's no question this is where I'll stay next time I'm in Natchez.

This B&B is wonderful. The room was very comfortable, breakfast of the highest standards, and service outstanding. The city of Natchez has a lot of Southern hospitality and delicious foods. This B&B is located at the bluffs of the Mississippi. We will return for a longer visit in the near future and will be sure to stay here again. The proprietor has a lot of helpful insights and information. Overall a very satisfying stay!!

Room Tip: Call ahead and you will be glad you did. The staff is wonderful.

Well done restoration, good breakfast, 22 steps to bedrooms. Mimi was pleasant, when she was there. Bathroom adequate. Strong fruit aging odors. Parking not an issue, availability in the back and on street. Nice to be able to walk anywhere.

I just returned from a girlfriend trip which included a three-night stay with Mimi at 1888 Wensel House. We loved it! There were three of us and we stayed in "The Front Room" which had a queen bed, a twin bed, a huge bathroom and a walk-in closet. It was on the front of the house, but the only "noise" we heard was pleasant.. horse hooves from the occasional carriage rides and a fife/drum band passing in a small parade. The front side porch is a nice place to relax in the sun! Breakfast was a treat. The first day, Mimi treated us to breakfast at the Castle and a tour of Dunleigh. The next two days, she prepared a fantastic spread which included fruits, grits and eggs...which pleased my vegetarian/gluten-free-diet companions. I went for the Southern bisquits which tasted like my Mother's, blueberry pancakes, bacon and sausage. With a full table of 7 house guests, Mimi joined us to talk about Natchez. Delightful visit! We had planned to only stay two nights, but decided to drive down one night early. When we arrived between 10 and 11PM...she greeeted us warmly (unlike some B&B's who don't want to check in anyone after 6PM!) The house has tall ceilings making the staircase climb a doozy for old knees....so don't pack your steamer trunk! The house is a block to the river park (where there are picnic tables) and about two blocks to downtown restaurants (great location!). We parked on the street, but off-street parking is available. We went during post-pilgrimage and toured two of Natchez' "private" homes. Great tours...."docents" were actual family members who lived in the homes....not just a guide with a script! This made for a very special tour. Gardens are lovely. People seemed to really enjoy having us as their guest. We all three agreed we will return to Natchez, stay with Mimi again, and soak up more Southern Hospitality, Natchez style.

During our stay, we dined at Bisquit and Blues (blue plate special of catfish and veggies); Magnolia Grill (slow service, good crawfish chowder, beautiful view); Slick Rick's (to die for crawfish tail stuffed crossiant and unbelievable salad dressings and service...our wait person couldn't remember which dressing we ordered so she just brought us a dinner plate with every dressing on it to try!), and Cotton Alley (start with dessert but my friends loved the tuna....seafood gumbo was also nice.)

Room Tip: There are only three rooms...one to front and two to rear. Front room has a huge bathroom.

The 1888 Wensel House, in Natchez, Ms. is a lovely place to stay. It is beautifully furnished with fine antiques but also very comfortable and very clean. Cold drinks (sodas), a glass of wine and fresh fruit are available to the guests all day. The price of $128.50 with tax includes a delicious breakfast of fruit, eggs, pancakes, grits, bacon and sausage, served at 8:30 AM. Coffee or tea is available from 7:30 AM. We highly recommend the Wensel House and would stay there again when coming to Natchez.

Room Tip: The Oak Room is quieter.

We spent two nights at the 1888 Wensel House Bed and Breakfast in October, 2012. The room was clean and comfortable. The owners were very gracious and accommodating. The breakfast was substantial and delicious. Our only complaint was that our room faced a main route, so traffic noise began around 5 am. If I stayed there again, I'd ask for a room on the opposite side of the house in the hopes of minimizing the noise. The B & B is within walking distance of many attactions and very near the bluffs of the Mississippi River.

Room Tip: Choose one on the side of the house away from the main traffic route.
