“Great visit to Nathez”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights in early July, with a room in the Carriage House.
The Carriage House is a short walk from the main house and conveniently located on the north side of town - a short drive to anywhere in the city, but in quiet area. There was a nice, large front porch (facing east) with comfortable seating and ceiling fans. Even in July it was pleasant sitting out on the porch, enjoying the flower garden and having a glass of wine after a long day of home tours.. Our nicely furnished room had a very comfortable king bed and a sitting room off the side of bedroom and was furnished in very nice period pieces. There was a full, hearty breakfast served at 8:30 a.m. each morning in a large dining area in the Carriage House (coffee was available much earlier). The owners and staff were polite and helpful with any question or request during our stay. We would not hesitate to return to the Devereaux Shields House.

Our stay here was exactly what I had hoped for at a B&B in Natchez. We stayed at the Aunt Clara's cottage in the Alice room. Lovely antiques, a comfortable porch, drinks and snacks available. Quality sheets on the bed, soft towels and a very comfy robe. Even the iron was high quality! The breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed visiting with other patrons. The hostess made good dinner suggestions and even made a reservation for one of the other couples. My only minor complaint was that the electric candles in the windows made the room very light, even when I closed the heavy drapes.

Room Tip: Most rooms could accomodate more than 2 people.

We picked this B&B because they allowed pets. They had a lovely fenced in yard in the back, which was nice for the pooches. Upon arrival, the dogs were given treats and a bow, which they of course loved. They were also each given a souvenir dog bowl, which was a lovely touch.

We stayed in Aunt Clara's Cottage. The rooms were beautiful and the bed was very comfortable. The location is a little far to walk to downtown, but it is a super short drive. We never had a hard time parking. The grounds had plenty of sitting outside, which made for a nice place to relax in the mornings or evenings. The breakfast was ok. My family and I were not the biggest fans. The fresh fruit every morning was nice. The main dish was french toast one morning, which was more like a bread pudding. The second morning was an egg casserole with a hollandaise sauce on top. The helpers in the morning during breakfast were always attentive and super nice. They made sure that we never ran out of juice or coffee.

Overall, a nice place to stay in the area.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Elmo Room, which was very nice. Its on the opposite side of the house from the othe...

We loved this B & B! The owners went out of their way to be hospitable to us. We loved the charming comfortable antique furniture in every room. Our sheets were the yummiest we have ever felt and the luxurious robes were enjoyed while we stayed there. Our favorite part was waking up to the smell of breakfast cooking and then being served with a smile in the large dining room each morning...while we got to chat with other guests about their traveling adventures! There were even board games available outside our room that we enjoyed. Three generations (my mother, daughter, and I) came to tour the historic homes and this B & B experience was just the icing on the cake for a great visit to Natchez! Thank you Ron and Eleanor for a wonderful stay!

Room Tip: We purchased the additional Simply Elegant Stay package that included a horse drawn carriage ride an...

I stayed for 2 nights at the Devereaux Shields House. It' was a "girl's trip", there were 3 of us and we stayed in the Gallery Suite. It's 2 rooms and one bathroom with access to the balcony. Large bedroom with a king bed, decent sized bedroom with a full. Beautiful period furnishings, comfortable beds, very clean rooms and bathroom. The bathroom is small but just fine. Eleanor is a wonderful lady and took great care of us! She gave us restaurant suggestions for lunch and dinner. Breakfast is down the street at Aunt Clara's cottage, it was delicious and the ladies who prepared the meal and served it were fun and friendly. Stay here the next time you're visiting Natchez!

Booked Deveraux Shields for just one night but we wouldn't mind staying here forever. Beautiful rooms decorated in the antebellum style with often original furniture. Sitting on the beautiful porch, I guess there is little to wish for.
We felt very welcome and Eleonore's breakfast is memorable.
We were staying in Aunt Clara's cottage wich was a bit further down the road. For me this was a bit disappointing at first cause after all I booked Deveraux Shields house. But still we had a great time.

This was a great experience for us. The home was beautiful, clean and friendly. Breakfast was wonderful and all needs we're met. Truly charming! The owners made us feel right at home and we had freedom to come and go as we pleased. There was a bar on the main floor that was available for guests.
