“Historic Treasure full of beauty and hospitality”
Reviewed 2 February 2009

Monmouth is an absolutely breathtaking site to behold! We arrived on Friday afternoon to stay for two nights and were immediately greeted by friendly staff and shown to our room. The room was clean and very nice and had a beautiful view of the ponds and gardens that surround the mansion. Everything at Monmouth was immaculate and it is evident that great pride goes into the ownership of this historic home. Breakfast each morning was very delicious and filling - great southern cooking! After breakfast, a tour of the home was conducted by Doris Ann and was very interesting and informative. She is a very sweet lady and made us feel most welcome! Natchez is a beautiful town full of architectural treasures with Monmouth being one of the most stately. My wife and I are lovers of history and especially of old homes and it brings us great joy to see history being preserved in such a fine manner. Don't miss Monmouth - you won't be disappointed!

Even though there was an extremely cold front that moved through, the hilly grounds were just lovely for walking. Enjoyed the spiritual side of the gardens - angel statues, stained glass monument - and the pond with bridge. Breakfast was delicious and the dining area most elegant. This would be a perfect place for a honeymoon.
Room was elegantly furnished with antiques and draperies.
Amenities were plentiful. The service staff was fantastic.
Our grandson even caught a large bass in the pond! (He released it.) Even though Monmouth isn't great for children, there are enough other activities in Natchez, except for the very young.
Our grandkids enjoyed the plantation tours and the antique shops. Excellent food in the area, and marvelous dinners available at Monmouth. Kids loved "The Malt Shop", a drive-through. We will definitely return to tour other plantations and enjoy views of the Mississippi River.

The Monmouth Plantation is a truly special, one-of-a-kind oasis in the middle of Louisiana. Having driven from New Orleans through Baton Rouge and up to Natchez, we were amazed to find somewhere as luxurious as the Monmouth. We stayed there for one night, and the moment we arrived we were treated like royalty, and showed all the ins and outs of the place. Our rooms, the Antebellum style in the main house, were exquisite. Filled with extraordinary furnishings and a wonderful bed, it makes for a truly romantic place.

We had dinner at the Chef's table, and were the only ones eating there that night. The food was good, though not fantastic. The table setting was amazing. Breakfast in the morning was also good.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Monmouth Plantation for a romantic vacation.

We celebrated my husband's birthday here and everything was just perfect. Our room was very clean, beautiful and artfully decorated with stunning antiques. The bath amenities were very nice and the room was quiet and indeed comfortable. We lesiurely wandered the grounds which are impeccably groomed and found many quiet areas to relax and unwind. We chose to have dinner here as well and it was very good. The morning tour after breakfast was interesting and informative. Because we own a B&B in another historic mississippi town, we know first hand how much planning, time, effort and plain old hard work goes in to running an inn. We just want to say Congratulations to Monmouth for doing an outstanding job!

We were fortunate to have chosen the Monmouth Plantation on our Music tour of New Orleans, Clarksdale and Memphis. It is absolutely the most charming place we have stayed. We decided to dine at the big table. The guestsm were from Natchez and California. What a treat! The ambiance, food and guests made the stay and trip memorable. Before our departure, we toured the mansion with Peggy Sue. She provided us with excellent history and details of the plantation. Overall, this is a gem!!

I stayed at Monmouth for the Fall pilgrimage with my parents and my college age daughter. We took full advantage of the Fall pilgrimage and while we were up early and returned weary, returning "home" to Monmouth was a true treat. Of course, Roosevelt's mint juleps helped! We were lucky to have rooms in the mansion and dined in the dining room on one of our three evenings. The mansion and the grounds are beautiful and the staff is friendly, helpful, and welcoming. We enjoyed meeting the other guests as they seemed as relaxed and content as we were. It was hard to return to the real world after this trip back in time.

We are a Dutch couple (Netherlands) and had a three weeks’ vacation traveling the South of the States. The trip from Jackson to Natchez took us through typically southern sceneries, the ones we only know from movies. It was sizzling hot but so beautiful. Those small roads over the green hills. We love it. There is still so much space in the States, we envy it, because Holland is very small and crowded.
It felt like the energy in this area was also a bit heavier, maybe it has something to do with the history of slavery and civil war. It got to us in a strange but pleasant way.
Monmouth is absolutely magnificent! It´s renovated with LTC and the staff is very friendly and polite. We are sorry we don't know his name, but there was one particular staff member that smiled with all of his face. Every time he greeted us we became very merry.
We dined at Monmouth Plantation and think Monmouth has the best restaurant we dined in during our vacation.
Breakfast is more than extensive and delicious.
We stayed in one of the deluxe suites with a porch with rocking chair! The suite was very pleasing with a lot of atmosphere. For us this was as much “South” as we could expect.
We visited Longwood. A large octagonal plantation house begun building in 1860 but never finished because of the Civil War. Very impressive.
To witness a real American event we attended a football game at Natchez High, with home coming queen. We very much enjoyed it and really got a taste of the American way.
We also wanted to experience some blues in this area. The lovely hostess of Monmouth, Peggy Voss, drew our attention to a performance of B.B. King in Indianola, where a B.B. King museum was to be opened. Being the music-lovers we are, we were very anxious to go and see B.B. King perform live on Saturday September 13 in Club Ebony in Indianola. For us probably a once in a lifetime experience, regarding the fact that he would turn 83 the following week. It was almost impossible to make reservations for this event, but we didn’t want to take a chance on a daytrip for nothing and eventually Peggy did her magic and it worked. The performance was fabulous! We got a table next to the stage in a juke joint (shack), with a great ambiance. We were so lucky to be there . God bless Peggy.
The headwords for our stay in Monmouth and this part of the south are: warm, food for soul, beautiful, friendly, amazing and home….
