My wife and I stayed for two nights for our 10th anniversary trip. It certainly lived up to expectations and it was fortunate we booked early, because this was Spring Break as well as the Natchez Spring Pilgrimage tour of homes.

Monmouth is one of several antebellum homes in the area. It has a large property, an 1818 main mansion, several other accomodations on site, and a spectacular garden. This is great for a romantic trip as well as historic interest. We stayed in the Quitman room, which is one of the antebellum rooms. It was well furnished with antiques, and there were plenty of amenities in the room such as the bathrobes and tolietries.

For our first night, we ate dinner at the Chef's Table, which is one of two dining experiences available for dinner at Monmouth. It is certainly not cheap, but it is great for a special occasion. We enjoyed the five course meal with other like minded guests by candlelight. The dinner is actually served in a formal dining room in the main mansion. Breakfast is served in a building that is reached by a nice stroll in the garden. It is a full breakfast and a good way to start the day.

All of the staff which we encountered were pleasant. I could tell that they enjoyed working here, and to them, I say "Thank you for the wonderful experience at Monmouth!"

Needless to say, I highly recommend Monmouth Plantation

We just spent the past few days at Monmouth Plantation, our third visit in ten years. The food was magnificent. The service was absolutely charming. The grounds were immaculate. The history of the mansion and surrounding attractions: like no other in the world. Lover of history? Monmouth is the place for you if you're looking to experience the Old Southern Aristocracy (gentry) of the pre-Civil War era. Monmouth epitomizes the gentile, hospitible luxury of the by-gone antebellum Southern United States. We were treated to the most comfortable accomodations which have been transformed from the original slave quarters of the plantation. It is truly like going back in time. The staff are not only willing, but graciously "bend over backwards" to provide for your every request. All household servants and laborers are fourth and fifth generation decendants of the local African-American enslaved peoples. Treat them well! They deserve each and every tip you offer. We fell in love with Martha, Roosevelt, Hal, and Darrell. These four, fine employees are some of the finest servers in the Southern Hospitality industry. Thanks, Dear Ones!

The restaurant was not open the night we were there (a Monday) but we ate in the bar and the food was excellent. I was particularly impressed with the fried green tomatoes and the bread pudding. Our room was lovely. The service was very good everywhere except at breakfast which was understaffed and a bit surly. The food at breakfast was plain, not up to the standards we'd enjoyed the night before. The grounds are lovely, very pleasant to walk around.

The Monmouth Plantation is a must if you have a chance to stay in Natchez, MS. We stayed in the Saragossa Room, which was unreal how beautiful it was! I have heard the grounds are especially gorgeous once things start blooming, though even in January, the grounds were absolutely amazing! I'm highly recommend it to anyone looking for a nice relaxing getaway with some great southern hospitality :)

Was a very nice suite- the Saragossa. We got the winter package which came with a 5 course dinner, and an additional night 1/2 off. This is a great place to stay in a colorfully rich historical town.

Spent two nights at Monmouth last month and have nothing but good things to say about the experience. The staff and service there was outstanding. Wonderful epxerience and I highly recommend it for a visit to Natchez. Don't miss the great breakfast and try the chef's table at dinner. It was superb.

I made a reservation request in April 2009 for one night in July 2009. I did not get a confirmation in time. I sure got the confirmation 48 hours before the requested night, but could not take any notice of it, because I was already on my trip through the USA and had no e-mail available. Their policy is that someone can cancel the reservation without any charges 72 hours before the planned stay. Their confirmation routine does not let You cancel without any charges. I never got my money back. A confirmation right after the reservation would have avoided all the trouble.
