“Welcome to Paradise”
Reviewed 4 March 2007

My wife and I just completed a four night stay at the Monmouth Plantation. We learned of this property through a local PBS travel auction. From the monent that we arrived we felt that we had found a truly special place. Having traveled extensively around Europe and the US our expectations are pretty high when it comes to luxury destinations. The Monmouth Plantation excelled in all areas. The mansion and associated lodging options on the plantation are all impeccably appointed and maintained. The grounds are stunning with ponds, gazebos, rose gardens and yes, gracious mangnolias and oaks coverd is spanish moss. but the real gem at Monmouth is the staff. We were greeted by Jim the General Manager on our first day and he made it clear that he was there to make our experience special...he did not disappoint us. Hal, one of the housekeeping staff became our personal friend and consierge for our stay and could not do enough for us. We highly recomment Monmouth to anyone seeking a luxury get away in a little bit of paradise.

We booked a "romantic weekend" package directly with the hotel. DO NOT allow them to place you in their attic room on the third floor, room 26. We were provided this room at no additional discount, and this is what we received: The room was so hot that the ice in the ice bucket had melted by the time we checked in at 7:00 in the evening even though the thermostat was set at 60 degrees. The linoleum in the bathroom was rotted away around the shower, which was only half useful as the ceiling slanted so low it became disfunctional. The shower curtain was ripped. The toilet ran constantly. The water from the faucet made such a racket it shook the walls and pierced your ears if ran while the shower was on. The television would only turn on if you choose to flip on the correct light switch, which we had to call the front desk to find out. There was a half kitchen that contained a gutted dishwasher, broken refrigerator, and clogged sink with brown standing water. There was a double door to close off the kitchen area, but only one half of the door was there. The access to the attic was open and it was clogged with disregarded furniture and a bizarre display of stuffed birds. A second access door was open that led to the venting and electrical wiring for the house. The bed was lumpy and the pillows felt as if they had been filled with cotton balls. The only natural light was provided by two, small skylights--one of which had a ripped curtain in it. The overall feeling of this room was dingy and creepy.

We e-mailed the owners and property with our dissatifaction the Monday after we returned. The following day, the owner called my husband directly and apologized for our bad experience and arranged for a refund of the money we were charged for the one night we stayed. We have been advised that the room is under renovation and is not to re-open until summer 2007. While we will never get our time back, we do appreciate the gesture.

Being in the ministry and needing a place to relax and unwind for a few days during a busy time of ministry, my wife and two other couples also in the ministry were very pleased with the accomodations we were furnished at the Monmouth Plantation.

The atmosphere was serene and the incredibly relaxing. The rooms were absolutely beautiful and the morning breakfast was great.

To top it all off, we got to meet and spend a little with Mrs. Lani, the owner and received genuine Southern hospitality and charm.

I look forward to going back in the Spring when all the flowers and gardens are in full bloom.

Writing this from my room while staying here. Drove though this beautiful property last year while staying at nearby inn, decided to stay at Monmouth next time in Natchez.

Small but well appointed room. Warning-cocktails at 6:30 are not included but expensive add-ons on top of an already expensive (but nice) room. The room is small and not excactly 5 star, but when you combine with incredible gardens/ grounds, worth every penny.

Interesting part was dinner. For such a great plantation hotel, the communal dinner (in the gorgeous dining room) was substandard. Service excellent, appointments & place settings perfect, but lobster bisque too salty to eat, duck overcooked and drowned in sauce.

However, when I casually pointed out these relatively minor problems, staff extremely responsive. They bent over backwards to make me happy. I was underwhelmed with meal but overwhelmed with hotels's response to my casual concerns.

I realize this level of service used to be the norm at 4/5 star hotels, but in my experience, its become increasingly rare. I'm not only making plans to come back, but will be blasting out e-mail to friends recommending Monmouth for their weekend getawaways. Rare kudos from a picky traveler.

Perfection in everyway, evening cocktails to private patio,
we were in a slave quarters, 4 poster bed, robes, a large tub, and a small living room. our friends who recommanded Monmouth sent a bottle of champagne, the grounds are breath taking, the home tour is interesting, breakfast was alittle confusing but that was mostly us I think. Southern charm is overflowing, although pricey it's well worth it to step back in time and enjoy a slice of the old south. If you are the Natchez/ Jackson area DON'T MISS. Personally, we wouldn't do something this over the top often but it truely was a little bit of heaven. Absolute comfort, top notch service, we loved our visit

My husband and I have visited Monmouth for dinner
about ten or more times and now make it a place where we celebrate holidays and other special occasions. The service staff, under the gracious and kind coordinator Debra, are friendly and truly are interested in your having a wonderful dining experience.
The physical surroundings are superb. True Southern hospitality and Old South atmosphere. Gone With The Wind
live! The chef is fantastic. We started eating at Monmouth during the Natchez Food and Wine Festival several years ago and now
book Christmas and New Years Eve celebrations there as well.
We haven't actually stayed overnight in a room though I'm sure it is wonderful. We do plan on staying there at some point The dining and celebration experiences there are
one of a kind. If you don't stay at Monmouth, (which I hear are first class), at least book a dinner there. It is well worth it.
Say hi to Roosevelt! He is one of the nicest and happiest people
I've met and is a jewel of Monmouth. This is the perfect place to celebrate a wedding, anniversary or other special occassion! If you visit Natchez, make this your special dinner out especially if you want a romantic dinner. Book in advance. They sell out of their holiday seating very quickly and I'm sure weekends are the same. They have an incredible quail over grits dish that is to die for! We have eaten this dish at least five times and it never disappoints.

We visited during the annual Natchez Fall Pilgrimage. Monmouth was just beautiful with the Spanish moss draping from the Oak tr ees. The guess rooms at Monmouth are in Antebellum decor.
The are luxurious and most have fireplaces. The staff was very attentive and the Southern breaksfast was very tasty indeed.

The grounds of Monmouth ---you have to see to believe. Truly a place of beauty and relaxation.

Can hardly wait to visit again. Natches is a charming little city . Kings Tavern restaurant is also a great place to eat. Over 200 years old and said to be haunted. Next time I will visit in the spring when the hundreds of azaleas and wisteria are in bloom.
