Disaster map reading ... we had located Ticaboo on the Wahweap side of Lake Powell and were looking forward to a touristy boat trip: but Bullfrog marina close by is really geared up to boat owners rather than day tourists ... so nothing doing at the Marina for us. Jennifer on the desk looked after us awesome good and with an affirmative "I'll make this work for your children" she did just that with a little help from her team! She found a super friendly local guy to take us out in a speedboat on Lake Powell for the best ever aftenoon of the kids' vacation, and even came down to the marina herself to help bring the boat back in.
We have never had a hotel experience this positive and this spontaneously caring. Thanks again for an experience that we won't forget!
For the rest, all to spec at the hotel and the little restaurant next door is relaxed and child friendly.

I am from the eastern US, so traveling to (and through) an area this remote was a unique experience. Our journey began with my wife’s family in Ogden, Utah. The drive to Lake Powell was phenomenal. National Geographic currently lists Lake Powell among its “Top 100 American Adventures,” so you know you are in for a treat. My wife and I can survive (and enjoy) nature and new cultures with very few modern comforts. Ticaboo Lodge is a great staging point before heading into the lake and canyons for an adventure. The staff was pleasant and accommodating. The rooms were clean and the AC refreshing. They have a nice (if smallish) pool for a refreshing dip, along with gas grills for cooking near the pool. They have fuel pumps on site and a nice bar & grill next door. We had experienced a flat while exploring “Goblin Valley” on the way, and could find no place for a repair. The kind folks at the reception desk put me in touch with their maintenance person (who also runs their boat maintenance yard.) He met me early the next morning and assisted us with our needs. He did not even charge us, but we paid him anyway. The breakfast was somewhat meager, but we were more eager to get to the lake. It is another 15-20 minute drive to Bullfrog. Being on east coast time, I was up for sunrise and found that there was fresh coffee available, even though breakfast was not yet available. In the middle of nowhere, it is not a 5-star resort, but for our short visit, they did amazingly well with scare resources.

This was my first trip to Lake Powell, Stayed here this past week.for a couple of days. Front desk was courteous. Air conditioning worked great! Key cards worked intermittently. Wi-fi was spotty. Cell reception was lousy. The decor seems dated. Continental breakfast was......great coffee! Gas grills needed cleaning but worked well enough to grill dinner.Considering your options in this desert destination, this place was OK. After a long hot day, the last thing you want to do is pitch a tent.

Room Tip: No elevator.

We stayed here for several consecutive days during July 2013. We drove to Bullfrog Marina each day for a day of boating and exploring. The motel is 12 miles from Bullfrog and will take about 15 minutes drive each way. This motel has been shut down for a few years and was purchased and reopened in 2012. It has had a few renovations but has a long way to go. I would call it a work in progress. It reminds me of something along the lines of a Super 8. Our room was titled a "deluxe room" meaning it had newer linens and a small fridge and small microwave. Economy room is the same with older linens and no appliances. Both styles of rooms have older and somewhat dirty carpeting along with old furniture and fixtures. There are no room darkening curtains and the hotel faces east, so the rooms on the front of the hotel get a good dose of sun at about 6:00 am. The windows are pretty dirty though so they help to block part of the morning sun. I liked the old 1980's showerhead as it had really good water output vs the modern heads with minimal flow. The breakfast is minimal. It includes mini donuts, toast, boiled eggs and coffee. No juice, no milk, no fruit, not even any cereal. For about $10 per person you can get a fairly good breakfast at the restaurant next door. There is a medium sized pool that is kept pretty clean. We really enjoyed the pool especially on those really hot summer days. They also have 4 BBQ grills available for customers and a couple of old picnic tables. We used these to cook steaks and hamburgers and ate outside on the tables a couple of nights. The grounds look pretty shabby with lots of dead grass and weeds. Parking is part asphalt, part sand and gravel. There is an onsite boat repair shop and storage area if you need these services. The front desk people are spotty some very helpful and pleasant, others not so much. Overall the place is just okay. If you are just needing a place to sleep for 1 night this will probably work. If you are gonna stay longer you might want to spend a little more and stay at the Defiance House Lodge at the Bullfrog Marina. Defiance House is much cleaner and more modern, however they do not have a pool, but the lake is only a 1/4 mile away, and you will not have to spend 30-35 minutes driving to and from the lake each day.

Room Tip: Ask for a ground level room. This is a 2 story motel with no elevator. If you are on the 2nd floor...

We have been coming here for many years..We made our reservations for the July 4th weekend, we called to confirm the week before, only to be told that the new owner didn't want to honor our request, but they finally agreed. When we arrived, front desk personnel were unfriendly, had trouble operating the key card machine,& had other guests coming back because their keys didn't work... then for the continental breakfast the next morning.. there was no cereal, no juice, nothing for the kids to drink unless we wanted to give them coffee (which we didn't). The rates have also been raised significantly.
We have seen many changes over the years, but the new management seems to be interested in $$ only and is not interested in retaining guests year after year or providing a quality experience. You may as well stay at the Anasazi located at Bullfrog!!!! You'll get the same impersonal service.

The staff was very nice. Rooms were clean and cold. AC is a big deal when at Powell. The breakfast was not very good. Little variety and only coffee to drink. Also it is more than 10 minutes from the lake. More like 20 to travel the winding road and stop at the check center to the lake. Not bad for how much you save over the other resort though.

We found the hotel to be clean and well maintained. The staff was nice and friendly. We were planning on driving to Arizona but it was getting late so we decided to stop for the night. We were somewhat reluctant to stay at Ticaboo due to reading the previous review earlier in the day. We took a chance and asked to see a room and the desk girl could not have nicer. After inspection we checked in and found the entire property above satisfactory.
Better TV and less expensive gas would be nice but as my wife said, we are in a remote paradise and paradise has it price.
Simply beautiful area!
