I stayed at a Casa in Punta Gorda for 4 nights. The casa is next to the Punta Gorda park where there is a public beach and a bar. The picturesque walk from Punta Gorda to Cienfuegos is about 20 minutes and includes the Malecón, the sculpture park, historic buildings and a view of the harbour. There are a number of casas, cafeterias, and convenience stores along the route should you require a beverage or other form of sustenance. Stopping for a drink to simply watch day to day activity of the local people is captivating. A bicycle taxi will take you into town or back to Punta Gorda for 2 CUCs.

I've spent a lot of time in Punta Gorda beginning in 1996. The area is very nice especially "el Malecón". It is a quiet area, usually very clean, beautiful old buildings from another era and a few bars. Los Pinitos has been one of my favorite spots for a long time; a fair menu but with good prices, music (often too loud) and LIVE music on occasion. Check out Punta Gorda

If you've been to Havana and walked the Malecon, then you've been here too. There is not much difference in this and to be honest there is very little to do around here. LP talks about how picturesque it is but Jose Marti and other parts of the city are a lot more attractive. There is a good restaurant nearby in an old colonial style house - Club Cienfuegos - which serves decent food. There is also a fried chicken place too if you are on more of a budget. Otherwise it is just a residential area. Can't see what the fuss is.

Stayed here 4 nights at Mary's Casa(across from Sculpture Park)...enjoyed the sunset dinners from upper deck &swam in the bay at end of the street & strolled the wide streets for beautiful architecture. First night, she did not have a room for us & she walked us over to a lovely neighbor named Yolanda. Mary's husband speaks good English & her son is a private driver.
They are both doctors too.

We walked the 30 minutes back & forth to Cienfuegos several times(but you can take #1 Bus or 1 CUC bicitaxi)...to see the ballet at the Teatro, ride the crowded ferry to castle & walk the Prado & enjoy fresh juices & eating at the Paris restaurant & the Saturday nightlife on the Malecon.
Taxied (25?CUC)to Rancho Luna beach & took snorkeling Hobie trip for 15CUC & took crowded local bus back to Cienfuegos Bus Station, though there were taxis for return ride,
