I don't know if it improves further in to the season, but there was little open when we visited and it was all rather tacky and scruffy, unlike most places we saw in Cuba. The "beach" was dirty and littered with used condoms - urgh!
The big houses were striking and the walk along the bay front attractive (avoid midday though). We tried and failed to hire bikes which would have been a much better way to see this part of town, or alternatively just stay in the very attractive old town where there is lots going on, and go to the beach at Faro Luna.
