Not all boats and outfitters are equal - some go much closer to the glacier and offer a better experience. Chose carefully.

“Lacking seats for guests in Eqi Sermia glacier cruise ship!”
Reviewed 4 September 2013

World of Greenland organized Eqi Sermia glacier cruise. First, glacier was amazing, staffs were friendly, and breakfast and lunch was great.
But there was lacking seats for guests in cruise ship! I couldn’t believe it. There are 3 box seats for each 6 persons and 3 box seats for each 4 persons, so the cruise ship can accommodate total 30 guests. But there were 32 guests when we joined this tour on 12 August 2013. There is also a seat for about 3 persons near entrance. But this seat was used for breakfast and lunch table during almost cruise time. My family (My wife, my daughter aged 9 years and I) and Canadian family (man, his wife, their daughter aged 5 years and son aged 3 years) got onto the cruise ship late, because the transportation car capacity was low from the World of Greenland office to the harbor. So we, 7 persons, were carried to the harbor by second transportation. When I got into the cabin, other guests had already gotten seated and there were only 5 seats left separately. I got 2 seats and my wife and daughter could have a seat. And there were only 3 seats left separately. Of course Canadian children aged 3 and 5 years couldn’t have a seat alone away from their father and mother. My wife asked a staff about lacking seats. But he said, “You should take seats by rotation or take seats outside deck with blankets.” The staff didn’t even ask other guests to give small children their seats. This is not a short time cruise. It takes about 5 hours to reach Eqi glacier. This is not a budget cruise too. The price is about 250 Euro or 320 US dollars. No way!!!! Canadian family spent almost time seating outside deck wrapped with blankets. Were there many blankets on the ship? No!! There were also no sufficient blankets for guests. The lucky was good weather, not windy or rainy, and warm jackets also helped us. Some guests gave the seats to Canadian family by rotation. But some guests made absolutely no attempt to give their seats to other guests. When we arrived at Eqi glacier, about 14-16 guests dropped off at Eqi Camp, and about 8-10 guests got on the ship instead. So there was much space in the cabin on a way back cruise to the Ilulissat harbor, and we could keep sitting constantly. At last we got relief from seating outside deck. I have experienced Alaska one day glacier cruise and Patagonia one day glacier cruise in Argentine. These cruises had quite comfortable space compared with this Eqi glacier cruise. Eqi glacier itself is amazing, but not that different from Alaska and Patagonia glacier. If you don’t have much time in Ilulissat, your first choice must be Ilulissat Icefjord hiking. There is no other place quite like this. If you join this Eqi glacier cruise tour, I definitely recommend you get a seat as soon as possible and bring warm clothes.

Stunning scenery, great place for hiking or just sitting around and watching the glacier calve.
Spending the night at the cabins is highly recommended

“Eqip Sermia - Camp Victor”
Reviewed 12 August 2013

Amazing experience to make this trip - sailing amongst icebergs, watching the glacier calving with sounds like a thunderstorm! And afterwards walk inland to overlook the glacier from the moraine! World of Greenland organised this trip, and owned the restaurant where they served really tasty food! The new huts were really luxury with privat shower and toilet. Expensive yes! But worth the costs!

“Breathtaking experience”
Reviewed 29 July 2013 via mobile

The excursion to the Equip Sermia Glacier is an unique and exceptional experience. The fare is not cheap, however what you get in return is worth it without any doubt. All tourist offices offer it for around the same fare, there aren't big differences. Some offices offer it up to 10 hours trip time, with slower boats and possibly one stop to have a meal at a remote island, some offer it with a fast boat, some sandwiches and hot drinks during atound 5 hours overall - we took this choice (with the tour operator Icecap Tours) and were very happy with it.
The weather conditions may change in Greenland during the day, and previsions are just an indication (roughly trustful, but not really sure), so you might better book the trip when you are here, and not in advance. Even in high season (we were here end of July) there are options. When we started at 9 a.m., it was slightly raining and foggy, but it went better and better, the atmosphere was very special and when we arrived at the glacier, we had the full wonderful view. The roaring sound of hugue pieces falling down the glaicer is impressing! We were lucky enough to see also whales during this trip - very impressing! Skipper and tour-guide were very professional, uncomplicated and helpful. We absolutely recommend this tour!
