“Good hotel, nice privatish beach, decent rooms”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 August 2014

Maybe more of a 3.8/5

Stayed here for a wedding, and was upgraded to a nicer part of the resort than the other guests for free.

The rooms were decent, though it showed some wear. Bed was a little bit more springy than I would have liked. View of the ocean was beautiful, especially nice after arriving jet lagged at night and waking up early to.

The beach here is somewhat private for a few hotels so much more space then say waikiki in oahu. Sand was fine too.

The forced valet was quite annoying, as they usually took some time to get the car, and made dropping by the hotel for a quick stop a hassel.

Biggest annoyance was paying for a few wedding guests but receiving no hilton points due to putting the guests names... so many thousands and no points...

Room Tip: If you are getting married, tell them, they might upgrade you for free. Also, 5 or more rooms quali...

We went back to this resort for the second time to give it another chance. Its a nice resort in a awesome location with the best pools and slides except for the fact the drinks are $17 plus tip. Most of the staff is very friendly and helpful. The down sides to this resort is it is 23 years old and showing it's age. Nothing has been updated except the TV's in the room. There is no attention to detail in any of the rooms. The elevators take forever after you press the button. The only thing slower then the elevators is the valet. Absolutely unbelievable, it didn't matter if I went up to the valet or called from my room. There were days when I purposely called the valet before I took a shower and when I got down there my car still was not there. It is such a shame because it is such a beautiful place that is going down fast.

Very disappointed in our first stay - would never come again or recommend it. This is a capacity game where the hotel tries to cram as many people per inch in every space possible. Not woth the $446 room fee and $125 grounds fee per day. Biggest problem - pool crowds. You need to get up at 7 even on weekdays to get a seat at the pool. Seats are crammed around every inch of the pool, three deep, with no leg room. The worst is to get an umbrella you have to pay extra for a cabana, else you melt in the sun. Same with the beach, where arriving by 8 might get you a seat (dirty) in the 3rd row of beach chairs crammed in their space. The poolside service is almost non existent, as there are not enough waiters and they have to service the pool and the poolside restaurant. The waiters are totally stressed out and show it. Cheap wooden tables are crammed onto the patio space - mediocre lunch cost $108 on day one - never did that again! Food is overpriced everywhere though, so you end up going to the shopping center to get reasonably priced food. Though the front entrance is polished, the hallways to rooms and rooms themselves need a paint job. Bathroom is not cleaned well and toilet area smells. I saw a bug that i am sure was a roach in the room. There is no sense that you are in Hawaii here - staff is non Hawaiian, music played is inauthentic Reggae and Rock. Didnt get any sense of the culture of the islands here. Overriding sense here is stressful as guests run around fighting for space near water and parents compete to get kids on the slides. Slides are small and unimpressive. One pool area was broken or under construction and the mess of cords, rugs, mud, fences was right in the middle of the high traffic area. My 11 year old was bored on the first day with the slides and i had trouble keeping him entertained. This has not been the case at other resorts. We went to lunch at the Four Seasons next door for a change and it was like nirvana - more of what I expected from the Grand Waliea - we did not want to leave the Four Seasons to go back to our crowded, dirty hotel. Instead of hearing the waves of the ocean at night they have a noisy fake waterfall that drowns out the sound of the ocean - we paid for an ocean view to HEAR the ocean! Tried to cut our stay short but could not get flights back sooner. Would never do again.

This hotel is pure luxury and definitely worth the money you pay. Everything looks stunning from the gardens to the rooms.

The rooms are massive with a very spacious bathroom, all hotels seem to have a view wether it faces the gardens or the ocean.

Hotel has all the facilities you want from a spa, restaurants, shops and pool. Restaurants are quite expensive but you can walk to the shops which is only about 5 mins walk to get something cheaper. The pool is absolutely amazing with a water elevator, slides and lazy river all of which is in the kids area as there is an adults only pool right next to it but isolated enough to not hear the kids.

Staff are amazing and very attentive, expect a lei when you arrived....flower lei for girls and a beaded lei for the boys.

Room Tip: All rooms will have a view as the gardens are just as stunning as the ocean

Great hotel with lots of activities. You can go to the pools and the water slides or become a certified scuba diver. their a great range of restaurants from expensive to inexpensive. At night you can find frogs and crabs on the beach and catch them. The beach is amazing and has warm water and good waves. would defiantly stay there again

Being Hilton Honors members,we decided to include a few days at the Grand Wailea during our trip to Maui. We were really looking forward to stay and play and generally check out what is supposed to be a "grand" resort. Wow, was it a letdown. From the moment we had an exceptionally rude reception at check-in, it never lived up to its promise. The lounge area around the pools is so cramped and crowded. It also looked as though it hadn't been cleaned in a long while. Almost no shade unless you book a cabana, but the cabana booking system makes no sense. We were told we'd be charged to book one for the next day, but couldn't choose which area it would be in, which is kind of a deciding factor in making it worth the prices they charge. The beach area in front was more crowded than Waikiki beach. Everyone crammed in like cattle. With a few exceptions, almost every employee we encountered was unhelpful. Service was totally nonexistent, which was quite shocking given the prices you pay for everything. Our breakfast buffet experience was just the last straw. It's a shame. The rooms are lovely and the pools and slides are fun, but you couldn't pay me to return.

Ok earlier reviewers said this but the word Grand should be removed, the grounds of this hotel are really nice, that is the main positive, they are not perfect though.
So I was travelling with a broken leg and asked for a room near the elevator, they did that, however there are multiple wings in this resort and the long walk to my wing to get to the elevator was a joke, I stayed one night but did not complain maybe I should have. I would think the staff would notice the crutches and be a little more thoughtful. The room is a decent size, the bed was firm not as nice as other hotels in the chain (Hilton) wifi worked bathroom amenities were decent. Liked the fresh fruit at check in that is a nice touch. The hotel has the potential but it is tired, and need care. The title of the review is a little odd but read on, my guest who was wearing white sports socks in the room, sat down after a little bit of walking around in the room to unpack, noticed the bottom of her socks were soiled. Thinking it must have been from the car or being outside enjoying the island, put on another pair and within a short period or time those were getting dirty as well. Myself in bare feet, I also noticed that my feet were dirty, we were shocked. I know we all don't leave the shoes at the door but I have never seen that in any hotel I have stayed in, the carpet being a beige colour hid the dirt well but did not hold it well. I did not complain, maybe I should have so they could correct it but really should I have to, cleaning standards and schedules should be enough to control that. I think the hotel should be stripped down, renovated, and then maybe Grand could be used in the name. Personally I paid too much to stay there, it was the cheapest night ever for me in Maui, however I would not stay again, cost wise it is much cheaper than the surrounding hotels but extremely disappointing spend the money to go elsewhere.

Room Tip: Look at a resort map before travelling, the resort is not the best from a physically challenged ind...
