“Great boogy boarding beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 July 2014

A little windy but great boogy boarding and great waves. Always see a turtle or 2 swimming around. Always plenty of room to spread out on the beach - its never crowded. GEM

“Big Awesome Beach”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 July 2014

Big beach was great and one of the most beautiful beaches I've seen. As others have pointed out, it's called "broke neck beach" for a reason. The waves and shore break are strong here. I wasn't really comfortable swimming here because I don't particularly like big waves but the ones who do had a blast! Take a walk over the hill towards little beach to get some amazing photos of Big Beach. Just don't go too close to Little Beach, or you may see more than you wanted to.

“A place to go to watch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2014

Big Beach. We went based on reviews that it was good snorkeling and surfing. Neither is correct. There is a shore break that creates waves at the shore line that are quite big. It was fun watching some of the locals on their boogie boards. They would time the wave, run out toward it, flip onto the board and the wave would make them do a complete flip upside down before they disappeared into the wave. There is a lifeguard station on this beach constantly warning visitors about the break and that this is not a swimming pool. We did not enter the water and left with the impression that snorkeling was not an option here (nor is surfing). A great place for advanced Boggie Boarders and excellent swimmers, but not necessarily a place for calm water swimmers. I still recommend visiting as a spectator if you don't meet the above criteria.

“Cool beach to watch surfers and bodyboarders.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 June 2014

Also called "Big Beach" it's a great place to watch people ride big waves. Pretty intense shore break. But really amazing if you're brave enough to go into it. Bring some chairs and just watch if not. Awesome food trucks around as well. Have lunch at one of them.

“"Broke Neck Beach"”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 June 2014

Absolutely stunning to look at but, statistically, the most broken necks occur on this beach than in all of the state of Hawaii. It has a crazy shore break.
