“Great honeymoon spot to unwind after a hectic wedding!”
Reviewed 8 October 2009

The service by the poolside and at the beach was out of this world. Love that sunblock and magazines were provided, they came around with samples of tropical drinks & cold hand towels! The hotel wasn't dead quite but we enjoyed that there were other people around and that the evenings felt festive without having to leave the hotel. It's a family friendly hotel. The restaurants all had great views of the ocean and a perfect sunset every night. Only drawback was price and that we had to pay $20 a night to have our rental car parked!

I was very wary heading to this resort. While all the reviews on Trip Advisor were extremely positive, the size of the resort and the potential for the pool/beach area to have a million screaming children around worried me. Especially after I had spent the previous week at the Secret Beach Hideaway in Kauai.

I shouldnt have worried. The resort was very good. Rooms were very large and very comfortable. I am with others, I dont think its worth paying the big bucks for the Ocean View rooms (as they are generally still a decent distance from the beach. The garden view is perfect compromise. Gym is a decent sized and there werent queues for the equipment. Tennis Pro was excellent and great for those looking to perfect those groundstrokes after a long day by the pool. Food offering is great and diverse. Ate at Spago and Ferraros. Yeah they arent cheap, but you are on an island in the middle of the Pacific. Service by the pool is amazing. Didnt have to wait very long for someone to come and fill my water cup and ask if i need anything.

The negatives? The pool was pretty crowded and noisy at times (but we just went down to the beach which wasnt as busy). There are more than a few kids about...so if you are looking for that really quiet getaway...well this isnt for you.

But the key is...if I was going to Maui again, I would stay here in a heartbeat.

We stayed at the Four Seasons after a stay at Fairmont Kea Lani and while there was nothing wrong with the Fairmont, the different in service levels was quite obvious. As the saying, it's the small things that count. I have never seen such a friendly a accommodating staff at a resort - there was not a single staff person who failed to greet or smile at you as you walked around. The staff who set up the beach cabanas, change towels, bring you your drinks etc. were super friendly and it was great having little treats every hour. The new serenity pool was great - we got a kick out of the underwater music! As expected, the resort was immaculate and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. We had an excellent and relaxing time at this resort and I would have no hesitation about returning.

My husband and I recently celebrated a delayed honeymoon for 5 days at the Four Seasons in Wailea (then went to FS Lanai for 5 days.) Like so many other reviewers we were blown away. If you are readying this trying to decide if it’s worth the money, I can assure you that it is. But be warned; once you go to this hotel you forever have a high standard for hotels. We checked in on Sept 4th and were greeted by name with lays, cool towels and yummy iced tea. I almost teared up over how lovely the lobby and beach beyond looked after 12+ hours of travel. Everyone kept wishing us a happy honeymoon, and after waiting 2 years to have people say that it was VERY nice. We had booked a Mountain View standard room, but were upgraded to an executive suite Mountain View room. When we opened our door we were greeted with a bottle of Champaign and chocolate fondue, as a honeymoon treat. We had the most amazing suite with a dining area, living room, two balconies, large king size bedroom, and huge bathroom. BTW- the bath soaps are l’Occitane. The fridge was always stocked with water and cream for coffee. Our view was of lush gardens and but we certainly could see the ocean too. While we were there we dined at Spago, which was great. I would recommend requesting a seat outside close to the water, and go for sunset. We did not go to Ferros or Duo but heard good things from other guests. We went down the road to Sansei twice, a fantastic casual sushi restaurant. I would highly recommend it. We also ate at Mama’s Fish house which was nice. However it’s VERY expensive. The drinks at Mama’s were more that the ones at Spago. So prepare to spend some money. The other things we did while on Maui were the drive to Haleakala on the first morning, which was so lovely. I would totally recommend it. You don’t need to bother with a tour or anything, just drive it yourself. The concierge had perfect directions, and knew the sunrise time etc. They also have hot coffee, muffins to take up with you. ALSO- the valet men (all so nice) put warm wool blankets in our car for the drive. It is VERY cold at the top- so prepare. We are snow skiers and we were cold. You need to be on the road by 3:00am which is crazy but we were back napping on the beach by 10:45am that day. We also did the Road to Hana and were so disappointed, I recommend driving there unless you plan on spending a night out in Hana (but why would anyone want to spend a night away from the FS.) If you do go, be sure to get some fresh fruit at one of the stands. I found a type passion fruit I have never seen before. Lastly we did the Old Lahinia Luau, which was just OK, although the sunset and drinks were fun. At the FS the best new spot is the Adults only pool, you need to get there early for seats (we got there around 7:30 each day) but it’s so worth it. There are free shade covered seats if you want them, and the most amazing view. They hold your seat for an hour or 2 hours during lunch time, although once we were there enjoying the swim up bar we NEVER wanted to leave. The layout is so nice, and quite. The details such as free sunscreen and constant pampering from the pool staff are out of this world. The beach and other pool are also nice, but for a honeymoon I loved the adult only feature. Plus the swim up bar was really fun. The only negative food at the pool or beach was the hamburger, it’s super expensive and clearly a frozen premade patty. The quesadillas were great though. Also, if you like beer the local brews are yummy. After we left Maui we went to Lanai to the FS there for five days, and while I loved Lanai and that hotel was sublime as well, nothing compares to the service at Four Seasons Wailea. I would absolutely recommend it to ANYONE!!! As much as it’s expensive, it is SO NICE they NEVER nickel and dime you so it actually felt pretty reasonable.
1. Get up early and grab the best pool seats. (yoga is nice too)
2. Get a car, Maui is best seen when you can get out and explore. Go to Lahinia one night, it’s very cute and has tons of neat shops.
3. Get some snacks and drinks at the Grocery Store on the way- you will have a fridge to put them in and the room service menu is very expensive. Most people I saw checking in had a few grocery bags.
4. If you come from the US Drive up to Haleakala one of the first days before you acclimate to HI time. The 2:30am wake feels like a reasonable 8:30 wake up if you are still on Eastern Standard Time.
5. Don’t get the burger at the pool- not worth the $25 bucks. Other choices are better.
6. Don’t bother with the road to Hana, enjoy that lovely beach and pool at the FS Wailea instead.
7. ENJOY!!!

Stayed for 3 nights at the four seaons. What a great time. great deal.

We checked in seamlessly. upgraded to ocean view room (really a partial view). champagne welcome. The entry area is beautiful and well designed. Leis upon arrival. Juice and coffee out for free. Business center at the entry area with 5 computers and lots of printers.

The room was spacious and very clean. Typical four seasons bathroom with a huge soaking tube, glass shower. double sinks. marble everywhere. The L'Occtaine bottles were huge- they replenish twice a day, so hide them and they leave more- so great. Had piped in music of your choice- we listened to Hawaiian music almost exclusively. Robes in room nice. Wet bar area with clear refrigerator- you can bring your own, or you can order packages for the mini bar.

The bed was nice and sheets so nice. The TV large, AC and fan nice (especially after staying in Hana and No AC!). The living area was adequate. Had plantation shutters, so some light came in in the morning. The balcony was very nice- kind of an angle view of the ocean, but still nice. Could not hear the ocean. heard neighbors only once...

They turn down the rooms with foot slippers, bed turned down and music playing.

The restaurants were less impressive at the hotel- ate at Duo- was pretty much just like Ruths Chris, but not as good. The breakfast brunch was very good, but expensive. Made to order omlettes and waffles. At 6pm they had a guy go around blowing a shell and lighting all of the torches- very nice. Sunsets were gorgeous. the itialian restaurant has a better ocean and sunset view.

The beach was wonderful. They will put out chairs and umbrellas for you. there was almost no one at the hotel when we were there and had absolutely no trouble getting chairs at the beach or pool. they come around with water and fruit and juice throughout the day. They have free snorkels and snorkeling along the rocks on the left have some great fish and we saw 5 sea turtles! They also have paddle boards and you can go on an outrigger canoe as well. There is a 2 mile paved walkway along the edge of the beach from one end of the resort row to the other- ran it twice and it was absolutley beautiful and neat to see the back of the other resorts. Run in the morning- already hot and humid.

The pool was undergoing renovations from 2-5pm- did not use at all. The relaxation pool for adults only looked very peaceful and nice with great views. We couldn't find a pool or jacuzzi to use after 6pm- they appeared to close... Tube in the room worked fine.

The shops were reasonable. Had a wonderful pedi/mani. Did not use the spa. There is an activity room with pool tables, Wii and PS2/3 and guitair hero avaialble with a large TV for sports. There are outdoor exercise equipment and a private room for training.

We spent a lot of time away from the resort too- ate at the Waterfront- very good. Ate at the Pineapple grill- very nice, but long drive. Went on a triology trip to Lanai- the best snorkeling ever. It was a drive to each place, and going 40 pmh is hard to get used to even after a week. Also went surfing at Lihue (rented a board and brought our own rash guard- beginners) and did lots of shopping there. Also more upscale shopping at the grand wailea- did not go there

Definately would come back in a heart beat and would stay only at the four seasons- it was the best by far!

We went to celebrate our 25th wedding Anniversary and decided to split the 6 days at 2 resorts. One was Starwood Sheraton and the other Four Seasons. I can only say that I would rather have gone for ONLY the 3 nights at Four Seasons and bagged the Sheraton!

Since we were celebrating we had a bottle of champagne on ice upon our arrival with a very nice card.

Everything is first class, the location, the rooms (large), ambiance, service, restaurants (Wolfgang Puck's Spago has fantastic food), morning yoga, HUGE breakfast, top of the line gym, the renowned SPA. The pool area is class by itself. Friendliest staff await you with arms full of towels to layout your seating of choice. Jars of sun screen around the pool for your use, on the house. They spoil you rotten by bringing little treats every couple of hours, i.e., cold towels and cucumber slices for your eyes, chilled water refilled every time you take two sips, ice lollies, Rice Krispies treats. If all that was not enough you can have a mini SPA treatments of your choice right there (this one you have to pay for). No nickel and diming here.

One night we went to dinner at another hotel about a mile away and the Concierge very sweetly told us to let the valet know and he would be happy to take us there in the hotel car and when done he would return to pick us up! I call that service.

Since all rooms are exactly the same I would recommend one not pay for the partial ocean view rooms - splurge on the SPA instead.

Since life is not supposed to be perfect.............

Our negative was a dinner at Ferraro (the Italian Restaurant) which has a fabulous location by the water. The food was TERRIBLE. How can you ruin a pasta and a pizza? Next day I mentioned our experience to the Concierge, which she apparently took very seriously, and within an hour the Manager from the Restaurant called and apologized and comped the dinner!

We stayed for nine nights in the FS on our honeymoon. We where upgraded on arrival. The sevice, the staff, the location, the rooms, the sunset, the infinity pool, duo, ferraros, the outrigger canoe, the yoga, the gym, the weather, the poolside treats, the free car to and from anywhere in wailea, the spa, everything is brilliant, incredible, superb, class. This is where all hotel managers should be sent to show them how to run a hotel, what it actually takes to have people write reviews like this. Thankyou four seasons for making our honeymoon one to remember forever. I gaurantee that when you are checking out, with all the extras that you get complimentary, the price is incredible. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you..............
