“Nice!”
Reviewed 2 September 2014

This hotel was very nice and clean! We were upgraded upon checking in! The staff was really nice! However, the food on property is super expensive but that's expected. The drinks were really not 5 star to me but the hotel overall receives five stars from me. Oh yeah, there's not too much to do on this side of the island. If you are looking to relax, this is a great hotel (good side of the island to do so). If you want to venture out, a car is definitely needed!! They have transportation if you would like to go within a 2 mile radius. If you're looking for a lot to do, don't stay on this side of the island. Last but not least, they charge a $30 resort fee per night.

Aloha and thank you for your honest review. We’re very pleased you enjoyed many aspects of the resort and the friendliness of our staff and appreciate the feedback that pricing of food and beverage at the resort had a negative affect on your vacation. The resort charge bundles our most popular amenities including high-speed Internet, overnight parking, daily snorkel equipment, cultural activities and more, making it a great value for guests. We appreciate your feedback and will take this into consideration when time to review the value and future inclusions. We look forward to welcoming you back again next time. Best wishes.

We are just back from our family vacations at Fairmont Kea Lani on gorgeous Maui island. This was our first time to Hawaii and we were absolutely impressed with the beauty of this place! We were very lucky with our choice of hotel - it was a perfect match for relaxing and enjoyable vacations with 2 kids in a 5* resort. The hotel territory is vast and impressive - lots of trees and flowers, perfectly maintained, the beach is big and clean, there are several swimming pools, kids water slide, numerous restaurants, own coffee shop, impressive spa, etc. Upon arrival we were greeted with lei (there is even a lei specialist in the hotel, which can make tailor-made orders which will impress you!) and our kids were given sand toys upon check-in...a nice start to beach vacations! Our suite was very clean and spacious, with a nice balcony with ocean view (including a table and a sunbed) with a personal complimentary tea/coffee station, high-quality bathroom amenities (our kids got the kids bathroom set as well), cosy living room and a luxuriously comfortable bed. We never had any issues with our housekeeping, they were always discrete, polite, accurate and very neat, top service! It is a nice touch that on each floor you can find a washing and drying machine, which is of a complementary use to all guests (when traveling with kids for more than a week it is obviously something everybody needs!).
The swimming pool area is just great, with the complimentary sun protection (30 and 50) and aftersun and chilled water, the staff around the pool was very friendly and helpful and always there for you, even though the hotel was full and sunbeds always busy. I recommend to book a cabana for 70$ in advance, which gives you all day access for the nice covered spot by the pool, refreshments and fruits!
As I have mentioned before the resort has numerous restaurants, but plantation traditions restaurant Ko was a big hit! It was definitely our favourite, the dishes on the menu were very well balanced, with a local touch and produce, influenced by Portuguese, Japanese and local cuisine. Both for dinner and lunch it was fantastic and delicious, delicious, delicious! There was a daily menu as well and a weekly special from the Chef, always fresh fish and seafood. Nobody should miss ahi prepared at the table on a hot stone, spectacular presentation and top quality experience. The wine menu on the iPad offered wines of any kind, all perfect sommelier choice (you can actually visit the small wine cellar and make your own choice). Kids menu provided a lot of healthy options, bento boxes with fruit salad and vegetables, sushi for kids, etc, we never had a problem with a choice of food for our 2 kids while staying at the resort! There is also a nice coffee shop and deli, where you can buy everything from milk and a salad to a bottle of chilled French Champagne and toothpaste - very helpful when you don't want to drive around or want just to grab a freshly baked pizza to go and have a nice evening in your suite (on the balcony!) and enjoy the views of the ocean.
Unfortunately I didn't have chance to try spa - but it was newly renovated and looked impressive and always busy. Next time I will definitely give it a try!
The concierge desk was very professional, being on top of all restaurant reservations and Maui activities. We haven't been driving a lot in Maui - there is a very nice high-end shopping mall literally next door in Wailea, if you need to buy something for the beach of souvenirs or whatever - you can definitely find there. We have also done a 1/2 road to Hana with a nice stop over for picnic lunch in Gardens of Eden (we have got our stuff for picnic on the way in Whole Foods), it was a nice half day trip and spectacular scenery.
We can't wait to be back to the beautiful Fairmont Kea Lani, where family is appreciated and quality of service is not only outstanding but also friendly....bravo!!!

Room Tip: Take the room with the ocean view!

I and my husband stayed for 4 nights at Fairmont Kea Lani during our first part of the honeymoon. Unfortunately, we arrived quite late in the evening and discovered that instead of king room we have received a twin room. Given the fact that it was our honeymoon we were quite upset of this misunderstanding, discovering that the comments we have submitted via Expedia when performing the booking were totally omitted. Anyhow, only the second day they managed to change our room, and even though it had a king sized be, the view was not as beautiful as the first room.
Apart from this the hotel is lovely, extremely elegant, and not too big, it has lovely swimming pools and the green areas are perfectly designed.
All rooms are mini apartments, quite spacious, having a huge bath (both shower and bath), and a small kitchen area, a living room with a huge sofa and a decent size desk, plus a lovely terrace. The sleeping area is very cosy and the beds are huge and comfortable.
The hotel has a big plus, having direct access to an exotic beach.

Room Tip: Contact directly the hotel if you have any special requests.

We ABSOLUTELY LOVE The Kea Lani. We go back to the hotel every year. (8 times now) The island is beautiful. The hotel is beautiful, but it's the staff that makes our trip truly amazing. I cant say enough about the hotel.

So we spent a full week here in August and had a wonderful time. Lots of good things to say about this resort:

1. Very family friendly hotel. We had a poolside suite which made it easy to go in and out during the day. Everything seems to be geared around families here with many of the restaurants not charging for kids under 5. There is a great water slide that both kids and adults use constantly and the beach has all kinds of good ocean sport rentals.

2. Service is excellent. From minute you check in they aim to please. It permeates throughout the entire staff from the front desk to the maintenance staff.

3. Restaurants on premises range from average to excellently. Kea Lani for breakfast was just ok. On the other hand Ama was good for lunch, Nick's very good for dinner and Ko was just outstanding. We are at Ko three times and each meal was excellent in it own right.

4. The spa is excellent as well and they have put real effort into it. The gym was fine and better than I expected from a Maui resort hotel.

5. Wailea is just better than most of Maui. It feels more secluded, it doesn't have the cheese factor of Lahaina and is very resort driven. Hence, you can do almost everything at or through the resort.

What I think you need to be aware of here is that this really is a family place. There is an adult pool and plenty of couples but it's a big resort - hundreds of rooms - and feels that way.

I would definitely call this a Four Star resort. That's not a knock but it's clearly one notch below the Four Seasons next door and other high end chains (e.g., the One & Only or Ritz Carlton). The rooms are very well equipped and have all the things you need but they are not quite as fancy as what you would see in a true five star hotel. So if that is your thing, this probably isn't your place.

Overall, very positive experience and would recommend to anyone wanting to spend time with young kids in Hawaii.

We were on an ocean front villa.
Two floors with a nice saloon and kitchen and a patio with a private pool.
Upstairs one master with closet and bathroom.
The beach is not great and the hotel is definitely too big for our standard. Like 450 rooms so people all around.
The service was very attentive and much better than in the Fairmont orchid.
Go there if you are a family with small kids, but avoid it for a romantic escapade.
