I follow the Baker on facebook and they posted they would have Malasadas for the weekend. They posted it as “This lemon-laced, super soft, Portuguese fried dough is covered in super-fine sugar”. We were heading to the Z for a matinee show and since the Baker is around the corner we thought we would stop and pick some up if there were any left.
There is no off street parking for the Baker. There is limited street parking since it is down the street from the police station a good portion of the parking is reserved for police vehicles. There are pay parking lots in the area. Not sure you want to pay to park to just pick up some bake goods. I dropped off my spouse, he ran in made the purchases, I circled the block and he was done. We were able to purchase 3 that day. We took them home to eat.
All three varied in size, color, consistency and density. They were covered in fine sugar and had a light covering of grease. The darker ones had a harder outer shell but light and flakey inside. The paler one had a softer outside and was flaky on the inside. They had a light lemon taste. They were OK, not the best I have ever had. Not really loving the lemon hint. I would not make a special trip for them.
Highly recommend following them on facebook and if you see something you like, plan on being there when they open or soon after.
