Yellow House (Hacienda San Vicente) is a fantastic getaway in Ecuador. Famous for its hummingbirds- I also got shots of numerous other birds and a spectacled bear high up on the bird trails. I slept beautifully to the sound of running water and frogs. Then a fantastic breakfast awaits. The family was so kind - letting me check in on my email regularly and use their porch with the hummingbird feeders for photography. I can't wait to go back.

We came to Mindo to see some birds and to relax. We stayed in the "Yellow House" for a week and could easely have stayed for longer. We were spoiled by the very freindly sisters and there mother. A big fine room with a balcony and a good bathroom. On the balcony we enjoyed the hammock. The free cloudforresttrails were fine and some orher guests observed a puma one night. Breakfast were more than fine and value for money. The place is situated a short walk from the city. Thats fine. They feed the hummingbirds so you are sure to see a lot of them.
We can absolutely recommend the place.

Room Tip: ask for the "masterbedroom" in the yellow house

We stayed here for 3 nights. This place has a very relaxed atmosphere, surrounded by nature, lots of birds and a nice swimming hole, the breakfast it was really nice, plenty food, while you have the breakfast you will see lots and lots of humming birds, tucans and other different ones. The owners were wonderful with us, very helpful, before we arrived we mentioned to them that we were travelling with an elderly person and when we arrived they have a lovely detail to put a banister rail so my granddad could go up the stairs which I think it was very kind. They also can give you lots of information about Mindo, they can organise transport as well.

From here the town is pretty near just 5 min walk and very safe. Early morning you can go from here on different trails that belongs to the Hacienda, it is an easy trail it can take up to 3 hours. At night time you can listen the frogs in the pond; make sure you have a torch with you in case you back from town in the night time.

We loved our stayed and recommend this place 1000000% thanks a lot!!

We planned to spend 3 days here and ended up staying a week. If you're interested in wildlife this is a great place to stay at a very affordable price. Our upstairs private wooden cabin was delightful with views on 3 sides of the lush gardens and cloud forest beyond.Spent many happy hours in a hammock on the balcony watching colourful tanagers feeding in the trees. The porch over at the main house was a great place to watch humming birds coming to the feeders and use the good wi-fi. The 3 sisters and their elderly mother are kind and welcoming. Breakfast is on the slow side but includes homegrown coffee, fruit and fruit juice plus eggs cooked a different way every day.Once you relax and accept this, its a good way to get to know the family. You're free to look at their wildlife guides, one of the sisters who spoke little English spent time showing us which birds, butterflies, mammals etc could be found on the farm and on the trails through their private cloud forest. As well as toucans, parrots motmots and humming birds we were lucky enough to see agoutis, red squirrels, capuchin monkeys and a very rare SPECTACLED BEAR!.

Room Tip: caimito cabin perfect for couples wanting privacy and balcony

Stayed five nights at Hacienda San Vicente, also known as Yellow House. On arrival, shown a tiny room without any storage space and with shared bath down the hall, even though had booked room with private bath. Turned out some other guests had requested to extend their stay and the owners gave them the room reserved for us. This was unacceptable, and after a long discussion, they finally put us in a room with private bath. This was a nice room up an exterior flight of steps with a balcony overlooking the garden, and had a small fridge. The bathroom was spacious but had two deep steps down, so had to be real careful, especially at night. The tiled floor can be very slippery if wet. There were no screens in the windows, so it was either get a breeze and tons of biting insects, or be hot and stuffy. We chose hot and stuffy but still got bitten terribly. For a place surrounded by fruit trees, the fruit offered at breakfast was pathetic -- one small wedge of papaya. Service was very slow, it was not worth over 45 minutes for the papaya, under-done toast served with a meager pat of guava jam and margarine, and small portion of scrambled eggs. Better to go into town for fresh pastries in a panaderia and coffee. Staff are generally helpful but need basic Spanish for communication. There are several walking trails but they're not very scenic as they're through the forest, the only view is when you get to an overlook with some covered benches that provides a nice view of Mindo valley. There are many places to stay in Mindo, so there may be better options.

Room Tip: There are several buildings with different room types, although booking a particular type may not ge...

This place is set enough apart from the town of Mindo to allow you to feel isolated from it. The rooms are comfortable and very affordable. The family that run the hacienda make you feel very welcome. Five amazing tracks into the forest are available to all guests and can be taken alone or with a guide (extra cost). I really enjoyed my stay at the yellow house - true affordable wonder in Mindo

Very good communication regarding our booking and, more importantly, our pick up from the NEW Quito airport (we booked over 6 months in advance so the opening date wasn't confirmed). Our driver Martin was exactly as described ' white Toyota truck, about thirty, always smiling etc..,'!

We were in the Caimito cabin which was very private, clean and cozy. Large bathroom with a hot shower, lovely breakfast on the balcony, humming birds... as good as it looks on the website.

The town is only 5 mins walk away so you have the best of both worlds... restaurants and shops are close by and the beautiful trails at 'Yellow House' are on your doorstep. It's a great way to relax and acclimatise after a long flight.

A couple of things to bear in mind... my husband and i don't speak Spanish, so although the family made us feel very welcome we were unable to take advantage of there local knowledge (wildlife etc...). There were students staying in the main 'Yellow House' (I don't know if this is the norm) so if you want absolute peace and quiet I would recommend staying in one of the separate cabins.

Room Tip: Caimito cabin is very private.
