Abrazo Del Arbol hosted 21 of us for a student retreat in September 2012, and it was perfect. The site itself is perfect, it is a good 7 kilometers out of town down a dirt track, so it really is in the midst of the beautiful nature that Mindo has to offer. As for the facilities, they are equally good. Very comfortable beds, warm showers, and wonderful food. There is also plenty of comfort and things to do on site: they have a small soccer pitch (perfect for groups like ours), a lovely pool, a yoga hut, a beautiful bar and plenty of space just to relax and enjoy the surroundings. David, the owner/manager, was excellent to work with, from the planning stages right through to the end of our stay there. I have stayed at a lot of places with student groups in Ecuador, and seldom have I found people as easy to work with as David, he is laid back but also follows through with everything he says he will do. For a group of our size, there are often a lot of small requests and changes to plans, and David was helpful in accommodating all of our needs. He also helped us arrange all of our activities and transport for the week (zip-lining, tubing, a visit to the butterfly farm, a couple of hikes to local waterfalls) and in so doing helped us negotiate better prices than we would have been able to get on our own. I can't speak highly enough of this place and the staff.

Our family just returned from an Ecuador/Galapagos vacation with our 3 children, ages 11, 9 and 5. One of the highlights was the night that we spent at El Abrazo Del Arbol. We were fortunate to be the only guests that night and we felt like we had rented our own private paradise, plus the added bonus of cooks and a wonderful host. David was so warm and wonderful and was incredibly knowledgable as well. He and his brother Mauricio helped us arrange transportation to and from the ecolodge and gave us great advice while there. The lodge is beautifully built and very comfortable. Our family loved to relax on the porch and watch the hummingbirds. The food was delicious and the presentation was comparable to a gourmet restaurant. My kids are still talking about the fresh pesto pasta that was prepared for them (not to mention Chi, David's perfectly behaved dog, who accompanied us on our hikes). Although it is a bit of an adventure to get there, through steams and on an unpaved road, it is well worth the drive and we a true gem in Mindo!

A beautiful property at the end of a long rutted road. We had our own 4 wheel drive mini-suv, so driving through the 5 rushing streams that cross the road was possible - if a bit scary. We had e-mailed for availability, and were told to come. A bit later another e-mail told us the lodge was closed for the weekend, due to a power failure - but as we were already in route, so we did not know until we arrived. The power had been back on for 15 minutes - so they re-opened just for us! Miguel, the handy-man and bird guide took me out the following morning, he has sharp eyes, spotted birds I never would have seen, and was infinitely patient with my amateur birder skills. The rooms are small – no place to hang clothes or open a suitcase. As we had packed for multiple climates, (and are chronic over-packers anyway) they let us spread out our belongings in a second, adjoining room without additional charge. We truly felt like cherished family friends! We can add our highest recommendation to the others on this site.

We were shocked by the beauty of the place a first. The food is organic and home grown. There are 3 waterfalls in view from the porch. The host, David was the best host one could ask for. A truly amazing experience.

The food was delicious and the hosts were very welcoming. If you like nature you'll be delighted by the scenery. We loved the lodge, the rooms were clean and there are lots of butterflies to be seen.
They also have a bar open for cocktails in the evening, We had a very relaxing day and we loved the walk to the river but spray a coat of bug repellent before you go out.
I absolutely recommend this eco lodge.
