It is 4 km from Mindo. This is a good not a bad thing. Mindo is best ignored. We took a taxi from historic Quito to the bus station ? Ofelia ($8); then you find the bus to Mindo (there is now a Mindo website) - 2 hrs, $2.5 - then a taxi to Mindo Garden (($4). We stayed put. You stay in a cabin of 3 bedrooms and hear the gushing Mindo all day and night. It is yards away. You need to scramble up the steep trail across the river to reach the spectacular cable car then the waterfalls. Allow at least 3 hours.

I never tired of the humming birds outside the main building.

Food is great value - breakfast juices tip top and with the scrambled egg I liked the pepper and ham combo.

My wife was ill for one day - it was a restful place to convalesce and the staff were helpful and concerned.

I seem to remember there is a more expensive Eco option in Mindo. Bin that and go here. Around £50 a night is a miracle of value.

Wonderful one-night stay at Mindo Gardens in a cabin (2 units) adjacent to the cascading river. Gorgeous views and very charming 2nd floor room. Bring flashlights as its a 5 minute walk from the main lodge after dinner and it's dark! Babbling river provided charming background serenade. Food at restaurant was very good for breakfast and dinner. Hiked steep trails on property to miradors and waterfall. Not luxurious but very romantic setting. Would love to go back. Only hiccough is that we didn't figure out hot water is electric and controlled by a light switch on the opposite side of the bathroom from the shower.
Note that this property is nowhere near the tarrabita but on the opposite side of the river at a much lower elevation. We thought we could walk with luggage from the tarrabita to Mindo Gardens but that's a serious hike not a short walk.

We just spent one night with my family in this paradise, 15 minutes from Mindo town where the food has always been quite acceptable, unfortunately this first time overnight turned out to be not so good.
The cabin we were assigned to had three rooms, the rental is per room, not per cabin, it has a sitting room common to all the rooms with two little chairs fit for children, the one we took was advertised for "four adults" but the third bed (rollup) (one queen, one double and a rollup)was broken, the mattress was made of sponge and sunk to the floor. The room was clean and so was the bedding, a good bathroom but no hooks to hang anything, no place to put the soap.. the room had four pegs to hang clothes, one small hutch and one night table. No drinking water was available there.
The service was slow at the restaurant, this is a well appointed place, charming and faces the river, lots of vegetation and birds, their playground is good for the children.
We were greeted by the cook and the waitress who checked us in, the poor man then had to run to the kitchen to fix our lunch.. the next day we saw a blond woman sitting at the desk, she did not even said "hello", we expected help to carry our suitcases but no one offered. This is not fit for the elderly as you have to walk through nature to get to the cabins, the cars have to be parked outside the compound, the paths are lit at night.
My experience was during the week, it is possible that things work better on weekends as far as service.

Room Tip: All the rooms are about the same, there is one cabin that does not face the river, if you wish to st...

Mindo Gardens was absolutely lovely. For an eco-lodge it was very clean and the staff made sure that we were well looked after. The manager Giovanni was really helpful giving us a lot of information when we checked-in and you could tell he wanted to ensure we would make the most of our experience in Mindo. He also spoke great English. Carmen, one of the members of staff, was amazing! Although she spoke very little English she could understand us and constantly ensured we were looked after - considering she was jack of all trades and helped at reception, in the kitchen, restaurant and around the lodge she was really kind, helpful and efficient. On one occasion Giovanni asked for our room key after breakfast to ensure the room was cleaned by the time we came back from our activities. We got our key back from him at 5:30pm just before he had to leave the lodge. We then later, after dinner, found out our room hadn't been cleaned and asked Carmen for some clean towels. Once she returned she said all was fine and we found our room clean and spotless when we headed back! I personally think if she learnt more English she could assistant manage the lodge. The location is stunning right next to the Mindo river and as others said you fall asleep to the rushing river. The rooms were comfortable as were the beds and even though it was an eco-lodge there were no bugs in the room! The main communal areas were great too, there is a social living room area, pool table and chill out area too. The food was outstanding! We were surprised at the quality! Definitely highly recommend Mindo Gardens if you decide to head that way. Wifi is only available at reception but worked fine.

I greatly enjoyed the hummingbirds at the feeders. What made the day, though, was a family of Pale-mandibled Aricaris, toucans of striking coloration. The parents and a juvenile landed in a tree not more than thirty feet from the front entrance. I got good photos, on my one day in this wonderful cloud forest.

I love the fresh-squeezed fruit juices, including mora (blackberry), naranjilla (soursop), passionfruit , and guanabana. My upstairs room in a riverside cabin was comfortable and clean. My one day at Mindo Garden was the highlight of my two weeks in the Ecuadorean Andes.

We spent the last night of our Ecuadorian vacation here -- and it was a perfect, memorable ending. Tucked deep into the cloud forest area, next to a rushing river, it was a lovely way to end our trip.

The cabins are beautifully constructed, as well as the main lodge, where the restaurant, bar and upstairs social area are located. Outside the front door, multiple hummingbird feeders attract a riot of colorful little hummers.

Mindo Gardens also had a beautifully maintained private trail leading to a waterfall and several look out views. The staff of the hotel gave us sturdy boots in our size to protect us from mud, snakes, insects or anything else we might run into. Luckily, all we saw was beautiful vistas, gorgeous vegetation and ongoing bird song... no snakes, insects, or even much mud.

The hotel includes a great breakfast which we were able to enjoy outside on a deck next to the rushing river. There is nothing in the world better I think than a morning cup of coffee surrounded by a stunning natural setting on a beautiful day. And to top it off, a brilliantly colored motmot bird landed in a tree just a few feet from our breakfast table... now that's what I call a brilliant end to a fantastic vacation. I will miss this place!

Room Tip: Ask for an upstairs room overlooking the river!

This was an amazing jungle lodge. Be prepared to feel a bit like you are camping. There is no Wifi! But you will have a cabin with comfy beds, electricity, and hot water. In the lobby there is a TV room upstairs and a pool table downstairs. Our cabin was right on the river, and I loved falling asleep to the sound of it flowing. The hotel is far from the town, so you will have to call for a taxi. However, it's walking distance to the butterfly garden, which was one of our main purposes for the trip, and we enjoyed the stroll.

We ate breakfast, as well as one lunch and one dinner, in the restaurant. All good food. You will see many hummingbirds in their feeders. We also spotted an agouti and my uncle, who is a birder, saw some toucans! My dad and I did get bitten by so-see-ums, so be careful of that. While it only rained at night during our visit, the humidity also makes everything a bit damp. The bed even felt a little damp, but I got used to it. My mom put a pill out on the nightstand that she was going to take first thing in the morning, and by morning it had completely disintegrated!
