I stayed at Casa de Cecilia with my 2 children, aged 8 and 12, in March, 2013 for 3 nights. The accommodations are quite rustic, but that is what we were expecting. We had a room with 3 beds that overlooked both the river and the common quad like area. The walls were very thin, made of just boards that didn't often touch, so there was noise from neighbors as noted by others. However, the river ran so fast and loud, creating white noise, that we were not bothered at all by the noise from neighbors.

The staff consisted of the owners (plus cleaning people and a woman in the kitchen,) they were helpful and sweet. They stayed out of our way, in a good way, allowing us to do as we pleased. They went out of their way to help us with making arrangements for not only local attractions, but also transportation back to Quito when we messed up and missed the early morning bus. Our room and the place in general were tidy and clean. It is in the cloud forest so it was very hot and humid, so often the bathrooms seemed unclean, due to things stinking to walls, floors, everything, but it would have been impossible to keep them clean without scrubbing and drying them every half hour!! My kids had a wonderful time there, running around with the owners dogs, playing soccer the local children, walking the 2 blocks to town, visiting the chocolate factory next door, riding in the back of the owner's truck to the zipline, and butterfly farm.....it was kid heaven!

If you are looking for a Holiday Inn, but a bit more rustic, you won't be happy here. If you are looking for rustic, clean, friendly, safe, well situated, treehouse-like living I can highly recommend Casa de Cecilia. It was certainly the best stay we had in our 7 week tour of Ecuador and Peru!

They have a rule that you have to take your shoes off inside. This is fantastic, but only works if you keep the indoor area clean! During my stay, the indoors was filthy with sand and dirt, and the guests had to walk around in it barefoot. That means getting into bed with dirty feet.

The breakfast was good, and the location is excellent. There is a little swimming hole on the property. It's cheap. It's really noisy as there is hardly any separation between rooms.

My boyfriend and I arrived on the recommendation of some other travellers but spent about half an hour searching for staff, they were nowhere to be seen. Our bunkbeds weren't very secure and woke us up if we moved because they were so squeaky. There were no power points in the room and the one of the windows didn't have any glass. We saw lots of beautiful hummingbirds during breakfast, they were beautiful and breakfast was decent. Breakfast isn't included in the room price, and kitchen facilities aren't available. WIFI is only available in the outdoor dining area. When we found staff they were helpful and friendly, it was just difficult to find anyone, we had to get a local restaurant to phone the manager.

Room Tip: There were no double rooms available when we arrived, only the expensive cabins, book in advance if...

We loved our stay here!after coming from Quito it seemed like a little piece of heaven! The double room we had was relatively small but it didn't matter as we didn't spend much time in it as Mindo is so nice! The shower in our en-suite had a window at the top so you could peer out into the cloudforest as you washed! You could have different options for breakfast which was nice and the woman at reception was lovely and smiley and knew some English (unusual for Ecuador!?) It is set right by a lovely river where you can take a morning dip surrounded by butterflies and humming birds! Would recommend to anyone wanting to stay somewhere and feel up close with nature!

Quiet neighbourhoud, near the river, great views. Rooms are basic: bed with mosquitonet and a shelf. No plugs. Toilet and sink ensuite, shower is shared and has hot water. You'll get a towell.
Wifi is everywhere. Possible to buy breakfast ($2- 3,5), no kitchen to use.
It's very noisy: wooden floors, walls are really thin and don't reach all the way to the roof so that's why it's noisy. The time I was here they were (re-)building houses right next to the place and made a lot of noise, began at 7am.
About the cleanliness: remind yourself that your are in the cloudforest. It's sort of a treehouse. Sand and bugs everywhere. But that's no reason not to clean the shower, toilet, sink and empty the trashbin for toiletpaper!
Laundry service is good and cheap.
They gave me plenty of free hot water for tea/coffee

I had just left Quito to take a side trip into the jungle to do the zip lines. In Quito everyone is telling you "watch out ! There are thieves everywhere!" I get to La Casa de Cecilia in Mindo and it's a whole different story. There are people walking and children playing in the streets at 10:00 at night. I always felt safe. But this story is about La Casa. It's a very short walk, about three blocks from where the bus from Quito drops you off. Two different buildings with rooms on multiple levels. Very clean. Very basic. Small rooms, but if you are in Mindo you aren't there for a Holiday Inn, you're there for the adventure type of nature that you find in Mindo. It's very clean, in fact, they ask you to take your shoes off before going into the building. They serve a very good breakfast in their outdoor eating area. There is free wifi but the signal didn't reach to where my room was, you had be be closer to the router which was in the eating area. I was very happy with The Casa de Cecillia and Mindo.

The staff here always went out of their way to help us. The rooms are rustic but very comfortable and very cute. This is my favourite place i stayed in ecuador by far! The location is amazing surrounded by trees, a river and animals. It is very good value for money too. It is not far from town (a couple mins walk to the very centre) and also is located near aome good restaurants. The place next door does amazing brownies! Also the breakfast here is great for the price. I wish i had have stayed here longer!
