“Manatee Explorer – Fantastic way to travel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2013

My wife and I are now back in the UK, after a really wonderful trip to Ecuador. We would like to thank all of the Manatee Explorer staff for providing us with 8 great days at wonderful locations along the Napo River, to the borders of Peru and back again. Being able to venture into the Yasuni National Park, to see so many bird species, mammal’s, insects and the local communities, was a privilege.
The food served on board we thought was to a high restaurant standard. The dining and bar service given and the guys on the daily canoe trips were excellent. Our room on the top deck, Dolphin, was very nice and extremely comfortable
We would like to give great praise to our 2 guides, Ruben and Milton. Their good humour, fantastic knowledge (and eyesight) and helpfulness helped make our stay a thing that we both will always remember.
I suggest you ignore the 25 January and 9 March 2012 reviews, as we and our fellow passengers found Milton and the food served to be excellent. The staff were always very attentive to our safety and our needs. Pack down, using soft luggage, which can then be stored under the beds, as there is limited storage.
Some trips are short, others can take an hour or so, but you will see things in the trees. Our last night’s trip to Limoncocha Lake will remain in our memory forever. Wear long sleeves, unless you like being bitten by mosquitoes. The glow worms lit up all round the edge of the lake, while we watched caiman. It was beautiful.
Our trip met and beat every expectation we had and we would love to go back and stay on the Manatee again. We will always have very fond memories of our fellow passengers and our time on board.

Room Tip: Top floor is great to view the passing forest

The Manatee Explorer provides a unique and memorable trip on a comfortable, professionally run river boat. All the staff and crew operate in an efficient, concerned and friendly manner making visitors feel special with programmes being arranged to ensure that whether you spend a week or a weekend on board, you always enjoy personalised attention. There is an good mix of cultural and rain forest experiences and the naturalists on board, who are experienced and extremely knowledgeable, share their insights and love of the Amazon Basin with warmth and enthusiasm. We are delighted to have had the chance to experience this wonderful trip.

We are a family of five, children aged 18, 10 and 8. We all loved the Manatee. The boat was fantastic, cabins clean and comfortable with great showers. The staff we incredible - couldn'f fault one from the maintenance and cleaners to the bar, restaurant and guides. A special thank you to restaurant manager Jose whose smile just warmed every day. Our guides - Raul and Milton were fantastic and enthusiastic to the end. Amazed by what they spotted and recognised. I would highly recommend the Manatee as a first class way to see the Amazon Basin.

From the outset the arrangements for travelling to the boat were excellent - everything was well organised and we received a great welcome on arrival on the Manatee. Each day provided an adventure of a different type experiencing the rainforest, wildlife and meeting some of the local people who live on the river. Our guides were very impressive, knowledgeable and highly informative. Life aboard the Manatee was comfortable in our cabin with a good powerful shower and airconditioning. Delicious food was served every day to complete the experience.
A trip on the Manatee cannot be recommended too highly.

The most fantastic experience of our lives. We spent 8 days on board and enjoyed every moment. The crew were brilliant and the chef created the most fantastic meals. Our guides Raul and Milton were absolutely brilliant. Hope to go back one day.

Room Tip: We had Jaguar room on top of the boat. Fantastic.

It was a delightful trip. The boat crew were exceptional in their concern for our comfort and care. The effort made to give us authentic meals was much more than I have found on other trips. Plus, the food was wonderful. I was impressed with the knowledge of the guides and their delight in sharing that knowledge. Our side trips were enjoyable and informative. I appreciated the effort made to keep us informed about our daily outings and educate us as to what we could expect to see. I do admit that I expected to see more of the wildlife that was mentioned. We saw lots of birds and monkey in the tops of the trees but not the dolphins, river otters or anacondas. That was not the fault of the crew or guides but rather a fact that they are not often spotted.
I was the most glorious boat ride I have had.

We spent 4 days of the Manatee and can't stop talking about our experience in the Amazon. We were met at the Quito airport by the representative of the Manatee who expedited our airline check-in and helped with our luggage. After our flight we were met in Coca by the local guides and taken to the motorized canoes. That was the beginning of our adventure. Each day we spent time in the canoe, exploring the river and looking for animals and plants. We went on night walks, looked for caiman in the river, spotted birds, saw a boa constrictor waiting for a parrot to land and a plethora of other animals. Our guides were excellent. Milton and Raul spotted animals and were able to show us where they were in the jungle (No small feat to get us to see a sloth at the top of a tree in the thick leaves!) They knew so much and provided such insight. We walked through the jungle, had a barbeque in the rain, and explored the Amazon with our guides.
The rooms on the Manatee are very nice and extremely comfortable. Each morning music is played in your room to help you rise and shine. I particularly enjoyed the listening to Elvis on the speaker! The food was fabulous and plentiful.
The trip is accessible to all types of people. My mother is 75 and she was worried about her ability to participate in the excursions. The guides were extremely helpful and she was able to participate fully. This is a marvelous experience and so fun!
