“Bryan Moya Superb!”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

I am 20 years old male
I went out here with my brother, 19, to enjoy the beauty of the Ecuadorian Amazon jungle for 5 days and let it be known that it really was a fantastic experience!! We stayed in one of superior suite meant for two, and the interior design and sheer architecture of the housing were accommodated to was all very right. At night when its time to sleep the design of the room I stayed in and the other suites from what I saw walking back and forth on the grounds have walls of bug screens practically surrounding you in your suite, which allows you to listen in on the loud but incredibly soothing sounds of the creatures that live just on the other side of those screens. The food!!! It was a three course meal every meal, beginning with an appetizer>main course> dessert!!. The chef there is a swell guy too and his choice of meals never lost my appetite and I'm a very picky eater. As for the activities, we were grouped up with other folk, and guided by naturalist and local guides who knew the area very well. It is really amazing what they spot out in the day and night treks we took across the jungle. I don't want to go too much into details about the activities because it'll ruin the surprise, but I simply cannot fail to mention the lagoon that engulfs the front of the Lodge, I mean you have to take a 10 minute cannon across of the lagoon in order to get there, so beautiful and the tranquillity is immense if you want it to be that way, of course you can go swimming in the lagoon!! I say this is simply the best lodge out there!!!! Thanks for reading this review I hope it stays true if decide to go!!!!!

Room Tip: Superior Suites are A-mazing!!!

We stayed for 4 days/3 nights. We are a couple and had a beautiful room overlooking the lake. The peacefulness of the location is amazing and waking up to the howler monkeys very cool. The room itself was incredibly spatious and beautifully appointed. THe only thing that could be improved would be the ceiling fan which did not do too much and so you still fried in the middle of the day.

The activites they have planned out for you are great and very enjoyable. The guides are great spotters and give a good history to what you see.

The meals provided were very nice and was great to socialise with your group and ask any questions of your guide.

It was all a very professional operation and one which we both thoroughlly enjoyed.

Thank you for your review! We are very glad you enjoyed your time at La Selva. Sorry about only having ceiling fans, but since we are located in a fragile environment it is very important that we conserve as much energy as we can. The climate is easy to get used to though, and we are so happy that we were able to provide a fantastic experience in the Ecuadorian Amazon for you!

All the best,

We stayed here for 3 nights and were in awe of everything. The accommodations were incredible, and as others have said, it was very peaceful. We had THE BEST guides: Andres and Teo. They were very knowledgable, friendly, helpful, and always went out of their way. The food was simply wonderful. Couldn't have been better. I had a massage as well, and it was definitely the best I've ever had. We had a fabulous stay and would definitely do it all over again.

For a location so remote, this place is truly a wonder. You have several choices for places to visit on the Napo river in Ecuador. La Selva is the last stop for the boats that often share the ride down the river. It costs a bit more but do not let that stop you.

The ride itself is stunning, especially if you have never gone down a wild river in the western Amazon basin. And make no mistake, you are going to a wild place where you are immersed in nature. There are no museums and really no civilization except for the small native villages in the area. Breakfast overlooking the blackwater lake is enough reason to go. The food is excellent for a place dependent on the river for all supply deliveries. The bird Guide is top of the list. I have been to several South and Central American sites and Rodrigo is a separate wonder of his own. The several nature guides there also were patient and knowledgeable. The rooms are hard to believe for a place so remote. Really beautiful. Troops of squirrel monkeys romping through the lodge area. The Hoatzins fluttering up to the trees off the deck.

My longer personal essay is here with photos:

That is for those who really want to have a preview look at the place. But, go, yes go. They could not be more accommodating at La Selva. I will go again.

Room Tip: Rooms over look the woods and a few are near the lake. There are no bad rooms. But you may have a wa...

We just came back from a trip to Ecuador where we stayed at the La Selva Lodge for 4 nights.
We travelled with another couple. The lodge was incredible, it more than met our expectations.
The staff was great, very friendly and very helpful. From the moment we got to the airport in Quito for our flight to Coca, their representative Mr. Brito took excelent care of us.
We were very pleased with the food as well. It was wonderful. Our naturalist guide was Diana and our native guide was Rodrigo, they were both very good and full of knowledge! We loved being with them. It was the perfect end to our 16 day trip to Ecuador. I would highly recommend this Lodge!

Room Tip: pick a lagoon view room if you can they are lovely with floor to ceiling windows, that let in all th...
