“almost a season ticket holder”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 July 2013

i have stayed here 3x this year, March, June and July, and Hahei is possibly my favourite place on earth. Start the day with an awesome sunrise over the Pacific, possibly having the beach to yourself, then get out on the cliffs and walk. Aside from the picture postcard Cathedral Cove there are numerous sites and sights in the area that are a photographer's dream (plus a lot of wildlife).Snorkeller or diver? This IS paradise. Aslo scope for kayaking and boat rides, swimming, beach sunbathing..... So far as the town-village, yes, to what other reviewers said- bring supplies as there is a small shop for the basics and not much more (and fill up with petrol on the main highway). I have camped here twice and also tried out one of the small villas, and the place is pretty well set up- i have paid a lot more in NZ elsewhere, and had a lot less in return- and yes, with regard to another review here, when you have a view of the sea that is quite priceless then it is going to cost you a bit more (in the UK, where i come from, it would cost a fortune), but there is nothing to stop you paying less to camp behind the dunes and then walk 20 metres to admire the scenery, and you can be beautifully serenaded by Tuis from anywhere on site, it is a pretty bushy green camping area. What makes this place is the really helpful and friendly staff, plus Mr Popsie the cat, who is a charmer. In high season it is probably rammed, but there is a lot of coast to explore and get away from the crowds. Delightful, and i just love it.

Room Tip: visit out of season, on the shoulder time, when the seas are still warm and the crowds are elsewhere...

We stayed here in the off season and were lucky enough to obtain an ocean front camping site with a view to die for. Location comes at a price. $50.NZ a night for a site overlooking these glorious islands in the sea. This was the most expensive camping site for the entire trip. Now for the rest. I would HATE to be camping here in high season. The facilities are quite minimal. The trek from the camping spots near the beach to the facilities ( toilets, showers, etc ) was considerable. There is a small block of toilets closer to the camping sites consisting of 4 ancient cubicles, so close together, requiring one to go the longer distance for privacy. For the price, these facilities are just not sufficient. The kichen looked really good. There was a BBQ area near the kitchen. I'm sure that if you stayed in a cabin it would be quite different. Hahei off season has the view and a great walk. No real food to speak of, so come with your own supplies.

Thank you. We appreciate your feedback. H block are our premium sites. For the budget conscious, we have other Camping options. Conveniently we have 4 toilet blocks located throughout the Camp. There are plans for an additional ablution/kitchen block to be situated closer to the beach. For those choosing not to camp, we have an extensive range of accommodation options available.

We stayed at the Resort for our second time this easter - first time staying when it was fully packed. The amenities still handled all of the extra people - the large kitchen and showers could still be used, and the park was kept very clean and tidy.
Will definitely be staying again.

I stayed in the backpacker accommodation at Hahei Holiday Resort: it was an awesome size for a group our size and the little 4-bed rooms were really cute. Stable wooden bunks! (GOOD!) There is a kitchen with a decent sized seating area enough for everyone to sit round. There is also a BBQ area outside with some picnic tables if its not too cold to sit out. The bathrooms are a bit small (and only two showers to the backpacker area) but I think there were more showers you could walk to in the camping area if needs be.
The resort is literally a 2-minute walk from the beach. Really enjoyable stay here!

Our family stayed in one of the beach from villas over the extended Anzac weekend and it was brilliant. Luxurious infact. The view was beautiful and the villa itself was clean tidy and well appointed. There's so much to do in the area too- Cathedral Cove, hot thermal water at Hot Water Beach , kayak tours and more. You can hire kayaks in Whitianga and paddle around some pretty amazing coastline.

We had a kitchen cabin. Was expecting a beer fridge & a cooktop. What we got was a full kitchen, fridge, microwave, oven and cooking utensils/crockery.

The toilets, showers & laundry were close by & very clean. The beach was very close, staff were friendly & happy. For what we paid, I was amazingly surprised at what we got! Totally loved it. Will definitely come back again & recommend to others. Well worth it, amazing place. Beach & cathedral cove is walkable, hot water beach and ferry is drive able.

A+++++

I enjoyed staying in this holiday resort. We stayed in a beach front villa and were really pleased with it. It was clean, had everything we needed including washing machine and dryer. The view from the lounge and the upper bedroom was fantastic. I would stay here again.

Thank you for posting a review. The Sea View Villas are a good choice. The view from the upstairs balcony is the perfect way to start the day, the outlook from the lounge is very relaxing if the couch is just what you need. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay.
