A reasonably good place to stay but pretty expensive really. Don't stay over Christmas and New Year unless you have good earplugs..... screaming kids early morning and teenagers letting off fireworks until 2 a.m.
Some of the cabins are getting a bit tired and need makeovers... especially at $175 a night!

Beach is beautiful but this place is no longer the "hidden treasure" of the Coromandel.Everyone knows about it and I mean everyone.

Room Tip: From tents to luxury villas... but prices start at $50 per night for an unserviced camp site

We do appreciate all feedback. With the volume of guests during the summer holidays there is going to be some noise. Over New Years fireworks are popular throughout Hahei where the noise travels.
Our rates are comparable with most accommodation options around the area. There is always the option to visit outside of peak season when the rates are lower and the children are generally back at school. We love the fact that more and more guests come to enjoy Hahei and surrounding beaches. With our range of accommodation – there's a bed or site suitable for most budgets.

We stayed here just before Christmas and it was very good. The site is well maintained and the staff friendly and helpful. The location is second to none, being tucked in just behind the dunes on a lovely sandy beach with beautiful views out to sea.

Room Tip: Powered sites in block H are right on the beach, with the best views and quietest location

Perfectly set-up campground, metres from the beautiful white sandy beach of Hahei. Great facilities, friendly staff and very family orientated. This is a classic "kiwi" campground. Don't expect polished floors in the kitchen, nor the bathrooms, but do expect clean, tidy, functional, everything-you-need facilities.
Kids had a ball.
Totally recommend.

What a perfect review! We've managed to successfully (for the most part) promote ourselves as a family camp, and love the fact this hasn't gone unnoticed! The real 'kiwi camping' experience is had here, with options for upgrading if you'd like more luxury. Hahei is a special place. We'll look forward to seeing you here again.

We stayed in a basic cabin for 3 nights over Christmas. The cabin was good value for money and fairly spacious with a fridge, table and chairs, double bed and bunk beds. We paid extra for linen and towels which we felt was good value at $5 (double bed linen and 2 towels). The double bed mattress was soft which was not ideal for us but some may like it.

We borrowed kitchen equipment for a $20 bond, this included everything you could need. We felt this was a good idea as it ensured you always had clean stuff to use.

The kitchen was well equipped with microwaves and 2 ovens, although one of the oven doors was missing so this was unusable. There were extra hobs around the kitchen and it was always possible to find space to cook.

Toilets and showers were clean. Showers are free.

The shop in the village is well stocked but very expensive - recommend visiting a supermarket before you arrive! There was also an ice-cream/pizza place which was open whilst we were there, and a few other cafes etc (these were shut over the Christmas period).

Cathedral Cove is within walking distance and is a nice walk under 2km. Hot Water Beach is 8km away but only accessible by car. There is a bus but this didn't start running until the day we left (27th December) so we didn't get to go :(

Hahei beach is very nice and fairly quiet.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. The bedding and utensils are added for extra convenience, especially for overseas guests packing light. The local services offer most needs within just a short walk. We're looking forward to the new brewery opening soon offering another dining option. See you next time.

Yet another great camping experience at Hahei. It is our second time for new year camping here and we have put in for next year as well. You couldn't get any better with the location. Its simply beautiful scenery with safe swimming and good kayaking. The campground itself is well maintained and staff very friendly and helpful.
We never used the kitchen facilities but the toilet facilities are looking a bit tired and a new toilet/shower block wouldn't go amiss as there is too few showers for the amount of people that inhabit the camp at peak times. Getting a warm shower can also be challenging at times if you go at peak times in the morning and early evening.
Word of warning (not regarding the campground). Take as much food as you can manage as the only store for miles which is a 5 minute walk from the camp is very expensive. We learnt this the first time there and came well stocked this time.
Also love the fact the rubbish is collected right in front of your site every day. Keeps the flys away and the rubbish from being banked up and overflowing.
Overall though we love the place and will keep coming back. Highly recommended.

Thank you for your response. We all work really hard to ensure our guests enjoy their stay. The convenient local store offer most emergency supplies. We do have plans for a new ablution block. We are continually looking at ways to improve the camp, and appreciate the location we're in couldn't be better! We look forward to your next visit.

The holiday park is in a fantastic location with a beautiful beach a very short walk over the sand dunes and Cathedral Cove within a reasonable walking or kayaking distance. Unfortunately this is the highlight of the holiday park with the rest of the site in need of some attention to bring it up to being able to justify the almost $100 per night that is charged for a patch of grass. There is only one shower and kitchen block for the whole campsite, resulting in it not being very clean by mid afternoon, or having ample hot water available for showers and dish washing. The grass was also getting rather long with no sign of anyone doing any cutting during the week that we stayed there. I know that this is peak season and as a result it is very busy, but you are also charged accordingly for staying at this time of year and as a result i do not feel that it was value for money. It is not enough to use the location as justification for the high charges.

We appreciate your comments. We do have plans to build a new ablution block. Hahei is a popular choice, and we do run at maximum capacity over New Year. The toilet blocks are checked 3 times daily, and we work really hard to keep the facilities clean. This is not always possible during absolute peak. Maintenance staff are available to mow sites in most circumstances. Occasionally sites do get missed when guests depart. We have gas, solar, and electric for heating the water. It is rare that hot water runs out, even over peak season. We haven't raised our rates in over 3 years, and feel our prices are in par with similar resort types.

We stayed here for 2 nights in a garden studio (#8- end unit) in the Cathedral Cove Villas.
We loved it! Although we didnt face the beach, it was quiet, private and a short walk up a flight of stairs and you see the gorgeous view and beach in front of you! There was hardly any one there. We took the Kayak trip with Cathedral Cove Kayaks..excellent, especially enjoyed the fresh hot cocoa & cookies they provide on the beach! Our studio was perfect, bed comfy, great shower and front deck..free use of the private laundry room too was a plus after 3 weeks of travelling. One of our favorite places we stayed on the North Island!

Great! We highly recommend the Kayak tour to guests. The coffee and hot chocolate are café quality. The Sunrise tour is definitely a staff favorite! Studio 8 is a popular choice for those wanting privacy, especially outside of peak season! The only way to beat the proximity to the beach is rent a villa. Thank you for taking the time to write such a positive review.
