We stayed 2 nites at orana motor inn in kaitaia.
Our room was very clean well appointed with everything one would need
From good supply tea coffee towels soaps. The room was very small just big enough for 2 people. We were lucky had rooms in the pool area which were nicer and more modern than the rooms with car parking outside.
We had breakfast & our evening meal at the motor inn. Both were buffets & good selection from Salads to Veges. The staff on duty were very friendly And went out of their way to serve us.
There was also a bar with good stock drinks including some local wines.
The reception area had a good supply of information on tours & the motor inn was within about a 10min walk to town.
The motor lodge also has a pool and spa but think just colour pool painted it didn't look inviting even though clean.
Free wifi good 2
The motor lodge is 3 star is very comfortable and a good base for a anyone wanting friendly service good food ,even homemade yoghurt ,in Kaitaia.

This motel was built and decorated in the 70's and they have managed to keep it clean and mostly working since then with no upgrades or changes, it would appear. Amazing. The manager is helpful and friendly. The tiny room works, has a comfy bed and soft fluffy towels. The bathroom functions but is so small and just not up to date in any way. A similar motel in the USA or Canada would be hard to find and cost about 1/3 of what they are charging for this motel. Most other motels in town are charging more than this one. Dinner was difficult to enjoy in the completely outdated dining hall but the food itself was very good. Breakfast is, well, expensive and terrible. It has a small pool that is a welcomed sight after a hot day at the sand dunes but needs a good fix up. So it's a toss-up. Kaitaia is a dismal town but if you need to stay here, Orana motel isn't the worst.

Room was perfectly adequate for our one night stay with all the amenities you needed including fridge, microwave etc. Clean and tidy. What really sold it was the fabulous food and the really warm welcome and helpfulness of the staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Was recommended to us and would happily recommend to others.

Decent sized room, however a little dated. Which is the theme throughout the motel. Really needs to be brought into 2012.

Rooms have basic home brand appliances which are cheap and weren't the greatest.

For price of the room and having stated at many other motels, I would suggest staying elsewhere. However I'm advised it the pick of the bunch in Kaitaia.

We stayed two nights, wished we had seen the rooms first before booking. Have never stayed in anything so tiny before in our lives (locally or overseas). Just a bed with a TV at the foot of it and a desk (it was more cramped than our caravan)! We felt like backpackers. The heating was commical, the old fashioned two bars mounted on the wall. The Inn does have it's own restuarant though and we couldn't fault the food. The staff were extremely helpful and more than made up for the accommodation but I wouldn't stay there again becuase it certainly was not value for money when compared to other places we stayed at throughout the Bay of Islands. The rooms really need to be modernized to make up for the lack of atmosphere.
