Stayed one night here during the week. Found the owners were really nice and wanted to make sure my stay was good, the unit was basic but really clean. The only thing I would mention was that it was really cold that night, and there is no heater or electric blanket, so had to sit in bed to keep warm.

Great value - Very clean and had free wifi. Would stay here again. A lovely lady checked us in and was helpful. Property is old but the owners obviously take good care of it. The bathroom was new and bright white. Stayed at the Northerner Hotel first night and moved here because it was much quieter and cleaner. Plenty of parking

Location was good
Room was comfy
Could use blackout curtains, water takes forever to come through hot.
They need to replace the sheets with a better quality, piling was really bad if you sleep in Pj's it's ok but otherwise it drives you nuts.

We had a very spacious suite of rooms including a separate kitchen/breakfast area. Everything was clean and tidy given that this is not a new building. The motel is within 5 minutes walk to the town. The owners were very helpful and friendly and gave us good tips on what to do, where to eat etc. The Wifi connection was good and the BBQ worked well. There was a small pool but we didn't use it. We had a very good two days there and the charges were reasonable.

Room Tip: You could try Room 7

We towed our boat up from Auckland to try some fishing in the Far North. This motel is very central to all the good fishing spots and we were very pleased to have a safe and secure parking space for the boat. The new owners were extremely willing to accommodate all our special needs ie cleaning and storing our boat, there is a good fish cleaning area out back, as well as giving us maps and detailed information on launching facilities etc. As we are also keen bikers, we were pleased to hear that motor bikes can be locked up at night in the owner's garage - so no doubt we'll be back! Our room was exceptionally clean, spacious, well equipped and very comfortable. Made good use of the pool and BBQ facilities too.

Room Tip: This motel has a variety of rooms to suit couples or families

we booked this hotel because of a deal it was having a cape tour included with the stay at $290 for two adults two nights stay and a day tour to the cape so i thought money wise this is awsome!
but however the lady at the reception was confused on our booking when we arrived she was old so didn't want to put pressure on her she expected us to pay cash but we had booked using a credit card so we asked if she could use our credit card details she could'nt figure out how to use the machine so lucky we had a bit of cash on hand we were able to pay, later finding out she had a eftpos machine :) but we are not fussed... the t.v is wired to freeview not sky, room was tidy and service is good. but it feels gloomy and boring kinda like you don't wanna go back and relax in your room just a place to sleep really.......

New owners six weeks into their tenure, and have experience in the hospitality industry. Motel itself is aged in construction, but tidy and clean. Quite a large room with good microwave and hot plates for cooking. Looks like some painting and other tidy up work has been done, and the boss was an active bloke! Overall no problem in an average motel for its age. Price for the room was quite reasonable. Breakfast was good but at the top end in pricing. What sold it for me was the service given. I was picked up from the airport in the evening, and given a lift to my appointment next morning - all offered with a smile and genuine goodwill. Can't beat that. And the free wireless Internet gave excellent coverage with a top signal strength. Beats many named hotels I have stayed in. Well done Kauri Lodge. Well done Kaitaia!
