Great spot to come for fabulous breakfasts made with free-range eggs and free farmed bacon. A wide variety of options for lunch ranging from Fresh Coromandel Mussels to freshly caught fish and chips and epic beef pies for the meat lovers out there. We use fresh produce and focus on fresh seafood but we cater to all diets including Gluten free, Vegetarian and Vegan. We have a wide range of yummy cakes, quiches and pies to accompany your coffee by Allpress. And cocktails & platters are available from 3pm to 6pm just in time for sunset over Tairua Harbour. And to finish off try a Kapiti ice cream served in a cone. Our menu is seasonal. We are fully licensed and carry a discerning range of local, NZ and overseas wines, beers and ciders. Make sure you check out our international deli and fresh french artisan breads. Every Sunday we have live music!

We visited this cafe on the advice of a local resident in Pauanui. We only came for coffee and cake and weren't disappointed. The coffees were excellent and the cake choice is great too, The servings are large so we decided to share the Carrot cake with cream cheese icing served with natural yoghurt and a gluten free Plum, White Chocolate and Almond cake, still warm from being recently out of the oven, which was served with whipped cream - yummo!

The service was very relaxed, but efficient.

This place should do good business once the new marina is completed.

The Old Mill is in an excellent location near the waterfront.
We were unfortunate to receive poor service from a member of staff over a misunderstood order, resulting in an hours wait for a replacement dish.It was clearly annoying for the staff member who approached us and in a loud voice asked "Are you allergic to mushrooms then?"
When main course eventually arrived still not as described on the menu, we complained, following which,to their credit, a free dessert was offered. However this was spoiled by the staff member concerned, who not knowing that I had followed her through to the kitchen, said in the hearing of other customers "You should have seen her face light up when I told her". Needless to say, I disputed this to the kitchen staff.
The manager then came to our table, apologised profusely for which we give him credit, and restated the offer of free a dessert. However by then, the damage had been done and we left without any discount.
In fairness, the food we had was good quality and reasonably priced. The Old Mill will survive despite this review, as it has a prime position and no competition in the immediate area. This may change when the new marina opens nearby.

On the water front by the marina now being built, the unimposing cafe/ restaurant offers a limited choice of excellent dishes. The chef must be well trained and prepares all food freshly cooked. The two waitresses are always cheerful and help to provide an excellent ambience. By far the best in Tiarua.

We eat early so this place was almost deserted when we arrived. Not quite knowing what to expect we ordered steaks - they came beautifully cooked, medium-rare for me and medium for partner. Service was excellent - friendly, caring but unobtrusive giving us time to chat and savour the atmosphere. It's worth a detour if you're in the area.
