“Nice hosts, pretty town”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 March 2013

It was raining the night we stayed we meant we could not sit outside. There were 2 rooms at the side of their house with 2 chairs outside each separated from the other unit by a trellis. Our room was very small with one 2-seater couch crammed in, so mostly sat on one of the twin beds. No fridge but the owner brought a 'chillybin' in for the milk which was useful as we had brought food with us for the next day and had been expecting a fridge. Very quiet - 5 minutes or so out of town. Best thing was our walk up the road the next morning (recommended by the hosts) to Parry Park which was lovely. Breakfast was fine - which we had with the other couple staying there. We ate at the hotel in the town (very good) which on a Sunday was the only place open except the fish shop. We thought the price was a bit high (A$122) seeing we had a two bedroom apartment in Auckland central for only a little more, but prices in country NZ seemed to be very high compared to Sydney overall.

Very enjoyable accommodation with private entrance and sitting areas. The bed was pleasantly firm and the room had a good sized ensuite attached. Spotlessly clean with a fridge and coffee/ tea facilities. Jan and Perry provide a lovely cooked breakfast and good advice about where to eat locally and what to look at in the surrounding areas. All in all a very pleasant stay.

Jan and Perry Bathgate are great hosts who made us feel very welcome and do a great cooked breakfast. Do ask for grapefruit if they are on the tree in the garden.
The double room we had was lovely and we had two areas to sit outside and view the wonderful garden. There is a small fridge in the room,
Lovely peaceful location and wish we could have stayed longer.

Parry kauri walk nearby great tree and a wonderful board walk into the forest

We enjoyed our stay at Warkworth Country House, although we only had one night there. We were there in spring and the perfumes in the garden were divine. The room was very private, clean and comfortable and the cooked breakfast was really splendid. Jan and Perry were friendly and helpful but didn't intrude. It was slightly out of town but only took five minutes to get to the CBD for dinner and we had a good recommendation from our hosts.

Room Tip: The queen bed room is larger. The twin bed room is a touch on the small side if you have a lot of lu...

We (husband and brother in law) stayed here over Easter while attending a large celebration....150 years since ancestors arrived from UK to NZ...in Wellsford. Because of large numbers attending, we had difficulty getting accommodation closer to this celebration, BUT as it turned out this was the best ever place to stay! Great hosts in Jan and Perry, private, beautifully clean, comfortable rooms and a delicious breakfast....the fresh fruit salad absolutely tops.
Would highly recommend this as a great place to stay.

This is a very comfortable B&B set in 2 acres of delightful gardens run by Jan & Perry who are very warm, friendly likeable people.

From the moment Jan answered the door to the minute we left we were made very welcome by both Jan & Perry who somehow manage to appear like old friends. We had booked the room with the queen sized bed which is the slightly larger accommodation of the two rooms. The two guest rooms are located to one side of the house with their own private entrances.

The room was fairly large and apart from the very comfortable bed, contained a 2 seater settee, chest of drawers, fridge and small TV. The room is accessed from a private patio complete with table and 2 chairs. There is a small lobby between the bedroom and shower room (with large shower) and the lobby leads to an even more private patio with table and chairs. The whole accommodation was spotlessly clean.

The gardens are beautiful but as it rained for most of our one night’s stay we didn’t get the opportunity to sit out. Breakfast is served in Jan & Perry’s house and you can choose what time you want it served. You may or may not share the table with the other guests depending on what time you have chosen to eat. The breakfast was one of the best we had on our tour – cereals, fresh fruit, toast and a full cooked breakfast to order. The cost of the accommodation was exceptionally good value for money.

The accommodation is in a quiet country lane, Warkworth is about 2.5 kms away, a five minute drive or a 20-25 minute walk. Ask Jan or Perry about the 800 yr old Kauri tree just down the road.

This B&B was one of my top 3 favourite accommodations during our holiday in New Zealand and I would definitely stay there again if I had the chance. Thank you Jan & Perry.

Room Tip: Ask for the room with the queen sized bed - there's an extra little patio to sit out on

As soon as we arrived we felt right at home, our hosts were very friendly and the rooms were clean and very comfortable.
We got several recommendations for places to have dinner in Warkworth centre, which is only a 2 minute drive away, and other local spots to visit during the day. This is a great location to base yourself for visiting the wineries, beaches, or farmers market.
The breakfast was one of the best we have ever had, with cooked and continental options, including fresh fruit.
I would definitely recommend this to couples who want to have a low key, relaxed weekend.
