“First time camping experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 January 2014

I decided to give family a taste of what camping life is all about. My husband is a creature of comforts so this was going to be a test for him.
However after arriving at Whangateau and settling into our cabin he was quite astounded by the cleanliness and over-all friendliness of staff and fellow campers!

We thoroughly enjoyed our camping experience and will return in the future!

Our initial experience at the park was a little tedious - there were other people set up on the one of our campsites and a campervan parked on the other with the owners no where to be found. After several hours they were moved off so we could then set up.
The facilities were good and park staff very friendly and helpful.
Its a great spot for swimming - when the tide is in.
The camp sites are a decent large size.
We weren't made aware of the cut off time for the showers so missed out on a shower the first night - our fault for not reading the information sheet!
Overall we had a great stay and will definately be back.

After an impromptu decision to take the family for a weekend getaway at this time of year, we were able to get the last basic cabin available. It didn't have a double bed for my husband and I but at the end of the day we had a lovely weekend. The staff were wonderful (thanks Stan and staff for making our trip with our new born son as comfortable as possible), the cleanliness is outstanding and just the over all atmosphere and vibes of the camp was fantastic. Will definitely be returning and hope to experience the same next time (maybe in a water front site this time).

really nice staff,
good facilities (hair dryer in the ladies, nice hand cream too..

We had a lovely non powered site on the shore with a view on the sea.

Only bad point which ruins our sejour was the army guys who had book 4 site just in the middle of the camping.

We have been ask to let our car oustide the camp if we came back after dinner at Matakana after 10pm. We 've found it fair enought as it is not to disturb the tranquility of other campers who can sleep at thae time.
So we did.

But unfortunately the army guys don't care to follow those rules of respect to others as they were allowed to drive their huge and bloody noisy trucks at 2am in the morning and then they decided it was time to do some cleaning, moving gears from tent to tent, making even more noise. and they did again at 4am... I really did get why the camp staff allowed them to disturb every one (baby were crying all over the camping).

Hello, thank you for taking the time to write your feedback for us. We do apologise sincerely for the disturbance of the Army staying with us. They stay every year and are wonderful guests usually but unfortunately this last time their stay coincided with Labour weekend - which obviously is not ideal. We hope that you will come and stay with us again and that it will be a much more peaceful sojourn.

well it has been 7 years since I was introduced to this holiday park, I have seen three different managers come through the current managers Stan and Bridget are great, all their staff have come to know my family so well.
My three children love the amount of space the holiday park offer, other campers we have got to know as well have become friends outside of the camping ground.
I see a lot of negative reviews regarding price, weather, staff attitude
campers have to realise that the weather is a changing factor all around the world, that will never change it will never be the same on one given day.
The price is realistic accommodating for staff and running costs. attitude grumpiness I have never experienced this with anyone on this site. I feel that the negitiveness that I have encountered with some of these reviews are not true just people that are upset because they did not get what they were expecting, (read the rules to the camp ground.)
Sites have rules set in place for reasons, people just have to follow the terms to the letter.

I have stated earlier that I have been coming to this park for 7 years now I have many years left in me for many more.

Absolutely LOVE it.. keep up the great work Bridget and Stan

Love this campground. I have stayed here in the past a few times but not for many years. It was nice to see the new office with shop, the upgrade to the TV (kids loved that - was great when weather not cooperating), the upgrade to the playground and the covered eating area. The showers always had hot water, and there was always toilet paper :) Liking the addition of the oven as well. Well done, staff!!! This park is nice and close to so many great beaches ... We took advantage of boogey boarding at Omaha, Anchor Bay, and Pakiri, snorkelling at Goat Island, jumping off the wharf at Big Omaha Wharf and of course kayaking at Whangateau.

This is a lovely clean and quiet holiday park close to beautiful beaches, and cafes. Not too far to shops. If you are thinking of booking an onsite caravan be warned. I paid an extra $70 for 2 people to sleep in an awning for one night - not much fun when it is windy or pouring with rain - it is only an extra $40 per night for 2 people to sleep in a cabin at Martins Bay not far away. If there is more than 2 of you I suggest booking a bach or even a motel.

Thank you for taking the time to write your feedback regarding our onsite caravans. We are sorry your guests did not feel they had value for their money. Unfortunately we cannot help the weather - if only we could. We should point out that this is an error and the extra charges per adult is $30. Our caravans at only $94 per night for 2 adults and 2 children are excellent value for the average family as they are also on the waters edge. Of course Martins Bay Holiday Park being one of our sister parks we are only too happy to recommend them as another excellent place to stay in this area.
