An absolute gem of a property, in a magnificent part of the world, run by the most charming and hospitable couple. The rooms were perfect. The whole place evokes nostalgia for a bygone era that you can't help but long for whilst staying in this gorgeous town. I've already recommended to friends, and will definitely visit again. Thanks Maree and John!

This is a little gem of a place to stay in Clyde,an old gold-mining town.We hadn't booked and luckily there was a room for us.Maree met us and showed us to a charming suite with access to a wrap-around balcony. All decorated with artifacts from a by-gone era and nice little touches like a cut-glass decanter of port in our room.Maree and John really helped us with our onward plans, giving us an amazing itinery which was spot-on.Lovely breakfast in the morning with fresh and cooked fruits of the region etc. Would def. stay again.

What a charming place to stay. We were part of a cycle tour group that stated at this beautiful old hotel. The owners were charming people. The rooms and whole place had such character and old world charm. Breakfast was yum! Modern bathroom facilities but some adapted like the old copper toilet cisterns about three metres above the toilet and a shower set over an old bath in a unique way. Definitely recommend this as a place toasty when inClyde.

My brother and I stayed one night at Dunstan House prior to doing the Otago Rail Trail. We absolutely loved the place!

We were met by the super friendly Maree upon arrival. We had originally booked the Wong Room which you should know is around the back of the property, in a different building. It's not part of the original homestead. Because they were empty the night we were there, Maree welcomed us to have two rooms in the main house as she wanted us to experience it. Thanks Maree!!! The main house has a big spiral staircase in the middle and all the rooms are distributed around the staircase, on the second level. The Honeymoon Suite was the best room and really nice. Not all the rooms have ensuites but do have separate bathrooms on the same floor. There's no mod cons (TV etc) in the rooms, all are furnished with antique looking beds and furniture, all still very comfortable. Downstairs had a TV room and kitchen etc. There's a huge verandah going around the outside of the hotel on the second level which was the perfect spot for some afternoon beers in the sun.

Maree gave us the rundown on where to eat that night (there's not a lot of choice). The next morning we met John at breakfast who is just as friendly and incredibly knowledgeable on the history of the property and the town. Breakfast was great too, lots of fruit and cereal as well as croissants heated up just for us.

We really loved the property, it's a beautiful place to stay and John and Maree really do prove that the locals in Central Otago are super friendly. Have just tried to book again for another stay but you should know that they're not open in the winter. Oh and it's located right on the main street next to the town pub. You can't get a better location.

Room Tip: The Honeymoon Suite if you want the best and an ensuite. The Wong Room is not in the main house.

We stayed at Clyde House thanks to Active Travel. This was our first night of the Otago Rail Trail. Dunstan House and Clyde is full of history and our host were very happy to share their knowledge of the surrounding area and it's history. There was 9 party goers in my group and every one was extremely well catered for. The whole building is beautiful, rooms delightful and the breakfast in the morning hearty and sustaining for our bike ride.

I thoroughly enjoyed my one night stay. Lovely ambience and lots of history. Choice of a couple of restaurants nearby for evening meal (best to pre book).
Great hosts, John & Maree
Breakfast at Dunstan House was comprehensive and delicious.
I look forward to returning.

We loved our two nights at this very historic hotel. Had a huge room with ensuite. Nicely done. The building is beautiful and the hosts are just wonderful. We also loved the guest lounge with the cozy fireplace. Were there for the Cylde wine festival and it was great fun to enjoy from the second floor porch. Highly recommended. Be sure and ask about dinner options as there isn't much in town.

Room Tip: Get a room with ensuite. The others look pretty small.
