I'd be tempted to say this place was like a home away from home, but in fact it was more like returning home, or at least staying with a close friend or relative! The hostel was very cozy with a friendly and laidback atmosphere. With a fire burning in the common area, and electric blankets (though I didn't need to use it) and heaters in the room, there was no question of being anything but toasty!
Home-made cake (first slice free) and eggs from their own chickens (50cent each) were nice touches. Also loved the wall of "lazy cow" pictures from previous guests!
Some free internet (I think it was 20MB) was appreciated, where many places in New Zealand charge for any internet access.
I only stayed one night, as there was not much else to keep me in Murchison (a quaint, picturesque little town, but wouldn't have stayed longer after wandering through), but I would definitely recommend the hostel to anyone who was passing through.More
