This is a decent motel located at the edge (meaning 2 minute walk!) of this lovely town and offers value for money as it includes a continental breakfast tray delivered to your room + a decent wifi quota. The manager was very helpful about activities and genuinely friendly. Definitely one of the better stays on this trip.

A warm welcome to a lovely complex of rooms. Very comfortable and well equipped, clean modern bathroom and spacious living area. Easy parking and well placed for a visit to the glacier. A good choice of places to eat close by and a well equipped village shop if you choose to eat in your room

Room Tip: They had a notice up saying inspection invited, so maybe you could choose! However they all seemed to be similar around a square.

Thanks for your very informative feedback it is great for us to see this as new managers from the 10th of may. I am pleased you were extra comfortable on our beds and have had a lot of great feedback on them! We have redesigned our reception to be more welcoming and comfortable on arrival.

Thanks again,

Libby and Lachlan.

We booked a deluxe king studio suite. On arrival I thought it looked like a very budget motel - the reception area is nothing special. However, our room was very spacious and well presented and all very new. The bathroom was beautiful - sadly we didn't get to use the spa bath. We were able to hire a DVD player and DVDs from reception to waste away our evening - it was supposed to cost $10 but the extra friendly lady at reception waived the fee. The bed was extra comfortable. The little kitchenette had all the bits and pieces you'd need when trying to save money by buying easy to prepare meals. There was a laundry which was clean and easy to use - they'd also thought of having drying racks which you could take back to your room if the time in the dryer wasn't quite enough. It was straight across the road from where the guided walks leave and just up the road from the little supermarket.

Stayed one night at the Westhaven. It is overpriced in our opinion. Reason for staying here would only be the proximity to the glaciers. The rooms were clean but did not lend themselves to self catering as there was the bare minimum of facilities. The internet was free but very slow.

Obviously not quite the review we look to get. Our rooms are large, spacious and cleanliness is a top priority for us. We are centrally located and our pricing, well we think its very reasonable and fair, we are not into ripping people off and want our guests to enjoy The Westhaven and Fox Glacier. Everything is very close by including cafes, general store and restaurants. Thanks for your review and trust the rest of your holiday went well. regards Kelvin

This poor review reflects mainly on two things: 1. poor attitude and respect from front desk, and 2. claiming free internet which is a lie. I will also critique the cleanliness and overall feel.
As you can tell from our recent reviews, we have travelled throughout North and South island on a one-month honeymoon. This is the first place where we can honestly say, it was a terrible choice. We walked up to the reception to check in, and waited behind a couple who was looking for a room as they had a sign up advertising "specials tonight". They were not satisfied so left. When we were up, I asked if we would possibly qualify for the special tonight. She told me that you americans are all the same, looking for a deal. we agreed on a price through booking.com, and that is the price you will pay. She made a LOT of errors here, I don't need to say what they were. I told her back that I was just asking, she didn't have to say that, and then i said "thanks for discriminating." She laughed, gave us our room key, and off we went. We were pretty offput by then, so the rest of my critique is probably harsher than i would normally put, due to this.
I make a coffee, with a sign next to it saying only one packet is provided for our use, and if we want more we have to buy it from her! You have GOT to be kidding me!
Then we went to use the internet. There is a 200mb cap, no streaming, no skype and no ability to use the connection for anything more than a brief moment in time. Really, I didn't care, but other people will, and the owners have to know that they have advertised a lie of free wifi. And there is no additional minutes given when you run out.

The bed was comfortable

The shower was clean and leaking everywhere.

There was no vent in the bathroom and it smelled like a moldy sewer....not sure what was the deal there.

Also, no air conditioning which we knew going in, but regretted due to the heat and bugs if a window was open.

No fan.

Our advice? Drive the extra few hours to your next stop. Although the Matheson Cafe was MARVELOUS and we would go back to the restaurant. NOT the hotel!

Oh dear, this is not good. Firstly let me apologise that we have not liven up to your expectations. To be honest I am at a bit of a loss with this review, obviously your stay didn't go particular well with us. However I have spoken to our manager and she did 'joke' about the cheap deal thing with you and she apologises if you took offend. Kerry is very good at her job and is very customer focussed as we are as owners. In regards to a couple of points you have made and I wonder if you are confusing us with another complex??. Firstly all of our bathrooms have automatic vents and fans in them, we do offer plunger coffee sachets, but there is no sign beside the plunger saying you have to buy more, so not sure if you ment The Westhaven or somewhere else. The smell in the bathroom and the leaking shower - not entirely sure what you mean, firstly we not had any mould or odd smells and the showers are all over the bath, with full shower curtains. Free WIFI, yes we do ,but it is limited to 200 mb, but if you run over we are generally fair about this, and will provide additional data if requested, but we are bound by new regulations on internet downloading as all hotels and motels will be in New Zealand. However we have been assured by our Internet provider and techs that 200 mb should be more than enough data for guests to use for e-mails, surfing, etc. I guess anyone reading this review and response also need to read previous reviews about The Westhaven as this review does not reflect what we provide or are about.
