“Great hosts”
Reviewed 7 February 2013

We arrived here in the pouring rain and things just continued to improve. Lea and Dave are great hosts-it felt as though we were staying at a friends house for the weekend. Rooms are well appointed, the bed is very comfortable and Dave's cooking is fantastic-do try an evening meal. Local knowledge is excellent and Lea could not be more helpful. The place to stay whilst visiting the West Coast Glaciers!

Enjoyed our stay. The owners had good local knowledge and made our stay interesting and enjoyable. Rooms are very nice with TV and internet available. Easy access to Helicopter flights which the hosts can organise.

My husband and I stayed at Misty Peaks for 2 nights while visiting Fox and Franz Josef glaciers. Misty Peaks was the perfect place for us, it was not too far from town, yet on a quiet street. Each room had its own french doors, facing a beautiful open space. Dave served a wonderful cooked to order breakfast each morning, it was simple and delicious. We also had dinner at Misty Peaks one evening, and it was an amazing experience. The company was fantastic and we had a blast getting to know everyone around the table. After dinner, we actually went out on a night hike to see glow warms with a couple that we met at dinner. While we were only there briefly, I really enjoyed every moment of it and am really happy that we decided to splurge and stay at Misty Peaks.

This most comfortable B&B is ideally situated to take advantage of what's on offer in Fox. It is in a quiet spot away from the main road just-two minutes drive from where all the action is!
We were welcomed by Dave who offered us tea or coffee on arrival. Very nice room with ensuite and a very comfortable bed!
Pre dinner drinks were very welcome as it gave us the opportunity to meet the other guests and Dave's wife Lea. The meal was superb accompanied with a very nice Sauvignon Blanc. Dave does a great job with the cooking but Lea's home made mayonnaise was/is awesome!
If we go back to Fox in he future we will definitely go back there.

Room Tip: All rooms are the same apart from the honeymoon suite but those on the right side looking down the c...

We were very lucky to have recently stayed four nights at Misty Peaks in Fox Glacier. It was the perfect place to call home for a few days. Everything about Misty Peaks was lovely - the location was great - off the main street of town, but close enough to everything. And we only had to walk about 50 feet to catch our helicopter ride to Mt. Cook (which we also recommend, but if you do it, be sure to book through Misty Peaks!). The rooms were very nice, with a lot of personal touches that made it feel like home, only better. The kitchen was a perfect gathering place with picture windows out to the mountains and an island to gather and share stories over wine and cheese (and get in Dave's way while he was cooking up something wonderful). And it was great to have Dave cook you dinner - definitely the best restaurant in town. I had the fish (perfectly cooked), my husband had the fillet and loved it and other's at the table had the lamb - and, to be honest, I didn't see lamb look that good anywhere else in New Zealand, and we saw (and ate) a lot of lamb!

Dave was helpful and honest with his advice. You can't go wrong - he understands his guests and gives great tips. He's easy going and fun, and if you spend enough time chatting, in no time at all he feels like an old friend. We were just sorry that his wife was visiting their grandkids in Christchurch while we were there and we didn't get to meet her!

My favorite memories from our trip were sitting around on the couch with wine (and more wine) and sharing stories - and Dave being patient with my questions about New Zealand that I'm sure he's heard a million times before!

If you come through Fox (and you should) spend a few days at the Misty Peaks - and don't just sleep there - have dinner, chat and get to know the place. It will only make you love New Zealand that much more. Thanks Dave! Our only regret was that the bridge north got fixed from the wash out and we didn't get stuck there for an extra day!

Stayed one night in this purpose built B&B in Fox Glacier. Very comfortable room and wonderful service. Dave, the owner, was great, very friendly and not to mention a very good cook. Book the dinner and you get to watch him cook it while enjoying a glass of NZ wine. Misty Peaks is appropriately named with its superb location and views of the surrounding mountains. Fox Glacier is a calmer and quieter alternative to the hectic Franz Joseph community.

We arrived after a long drive over Haast pass and after being shown our spacious beautiful room we were invited to join Dave, Lea and the other guests for wine and nibbles. The garden is lovely and it was really nice to be able to open the patio doors in our room and smell the jasmine. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well as it was so quiet. Dave turned out a very good cooked breakfast to complement the cereals and preserved fruits. We would have liked to have stayed at least another night.
