I stayed here while my visit to Fox Glacier and I must say this is a really nice place. This was very spacious than I thought. Beds were really comfy and had heating pads. Room had all the necessary cooking equipment and there is a grocery store nearby so you can buy almost anything.

Great welcome by the owner who spontaneously offered an upgrade (yes, I know this is low season and there were rooms available but he definitely did not have too). The 2-bedroom (queen bed in one, 2 double beds in the other) accommodation was spacious and super comfortable, spotless clean; the bathroom perfect and the kitchenette ideal for our needs. This motel is one of the nicest we have had the pleasure to visit during our long vacation so far. Even without the upgrade, this would have been excellent value. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED...

We stayed for 5 nights in Fox as part of our 4 month tour of New Zealand. We couldn't have asked for a warmer welcome that at this hotel. The owner was very friendly, offered lots of information on where to go, what to do but then left us to our own devices remaining on hand if we needed to ask more.

The rooms are basic and comfortable. We welcomed the electric blanket as it was a bit nippy at night. Towels and amenities were refreshed daily as needed and the staff very friendly.

The hotel is well placed for many things to do in the area, only 30 mins form Franz Joseph where we went to see the Kiwi's in the nocturnal house. A short drive to a fabulous walk around Lake Matheson, we enjoyed a nightly stroll around the Minnehaha woods lit by Glow Worms and of course explored Fox Glacier taking tracks to a variety of different views and climbing to the face.

Lots of places to eat within easy walking distance and to the helicopter booking places etc.

Hotels in the area are quite expensive so we thought Rainforest Hotel was well priced and placed and suited us.

Booked in, Receptionist was lovely. 2 good sized bedrooms. Kitchen and Family room were well presented and modern. Close proximity to Fox Glacier, city centre and Lake Mathison. As the units are continuous and a bit thin with the main bedroom next to the adjacent units kitchen, you do hear the adjacent traveller who has arisen early.

I would book this again.

Room tip: Room to the right hand sight of the property were good. Look outside at the Stars !!

We were welcomed by the owner who was very friendly and gave us some good advise on the local area.
We had a fairly small studio unit which was fine for a night, but prices in both Fox and Franz Josef seem to be quite high (supply and demand) I guess, but the Rainforest was value compared to many others
We were near the road, but no traffic noise of note at night.
Fox Glacier is less commercialised and a lot quieter than Franz Josef, but that suited us.
It was a short 5 minute walk up to the bars and restuarants.
The road up to the glacier was blocked when we were there due to the recent storms, so we couldn’t walk up to the glacier, one of those things, and the track that led up to a view wasn’t a great view. The motel owner told us to drive to the viewing point further past the Lake Mathieson turning which was only a 10minute Drive from the Rainforest Motel and we got a great view of Mount Cook and Fox Glacier and very few people seemed to be driving down there, whilst Lake Mathieson was very busy.
