After a long day driving we were in need of some relaxation and the hot pools certainly provided that. The entrance fee is a bit steep but the semi-outdoor setting among the foliage is lovely and it wasn't at all crowded when we visited the public pools. It was slightly annoying that the lockers and cubby holes were outside - it was pouring with rain so everything got a bit damp - but otherwise a good experience. Be warned, the water is artificially heated so don't go expecting natural geothermal pools. But really, hot water is hot water and we enjoyed sitting in it.

wow it poured down in our time in franz, so we decided to go to the hot pools.
we had a private pool for 45mins for $85 and then you are allowed in the public pools after included in the price!
or you can go into the public pool for $25. but as our active was cancelled we spent the money on the private pool!
i was pure luxury, you are walked around to your private little hot pool with a cover (like a little cave) private changing room and shower and free towels. we where sitting inside our little cave while it rained, surrounded by the rainforest!!! a experience we will not forget.

Nice activity to cap the day - soaking in a steaming Glacier Pool. they have 3 separate pools - one with 36c, 38c and 40c. Clean and set in a nice environment. Pools are large enough to still feel comfortable.

Situated at the far end of the village the facilities are quite smart looking with nice landscaped foliage and when we were there quiet. However the 3 public pools are not very large but irregular shaped and with the water depth being only approx 3 feet they are for sitting in. We were lucky mid afternoon that it wasn't busy so I was able to swim around a bit otherwise its all a bit boring. The only difference between the pools was a small temperature rise. They have missed a trick- no cascading water or Jacuzzi features and we certainly didn't hear the birds in the foliage as per the brochure. Apparently gets busy as the evening progresses but also if you are unlucky a coach group can arrive later in the afternoon and if so it is too small for any real enjoyment.
They do have a private pool option at approx 80NZ$ per couple for a limited time which is possibly appealing- I’ll let your imagination do the rest.
There is also the option for private massage etc which if you have overdone things tramping around the glacier could be very useful.
However for us at 25nz$ per person entrance ( although look out in the Jasons/Arrive mag for a $5 disc voucher) and when you get in a further $2 locker non refundable charge this is way overpriced for what it is.

We arrived just before 8pm, thinking we had 2 hours until closing, paid $25 for entry, and at 8:45pm were told the pools were closing. It's a nice spot but this was pretty poor considering how much advertising there is around town that this place is open until 10pm. Apparently they used to be but you would think if you rock up an hour prior to closing they might mention this.
