Being quite full from a rather late lunch, Alice May's did not fail to deliver on a most decadent dessert on their menu that month. The chocolate knicker-bocker glory (or at least that is what I likened it to) was not only delicious but went down within 5 minutes of arriving at the table with a few stares from other patrons wondering what I ordered.
The delicious, sweet tasting dessert aside, the atmosphere was fairly intimate, as seating was not crammed against one another. A fire-place and low-lighting (though not too low that one struggles to see) added a bit more UK "pub-like" atmosphere and the bar was not huge but quite well stocked with wines and the local NZ branded Monteiths beers and cider on tap. The staff were friendly, but admittedly I thought the dessert preparation and serving did take a little longer than expected. It also wasn't cheap, but when I went there if you ordered a main and dessert, it usually gets bundle and ends up being a little easier on the back pocket.
Overall, a thumbs up as a nice little place to chill out with mates (or in my case family) and when I visit again the mains will be on order as well as the dessert.
