we were passing through Franz but decided to stay the night, went to the Alice May for dinner,
what a great decision the staff were professional, food was awesome and other diners were commenting and photographing their meals which to me means we were not the only ones enjoying THE ALICE MAYS character.

Good food at a reasonable price with excellent service. We dined here three times and found the food and service to be of consistently high quality [decent size portions too!).

Very attentive and pleasant owner.... Looked jarringly like Dame Judi Dench... which is somehow appropriate, as this place captured the atmosphere of a charming British country restaurant/pub, with a nice variety of food to match.

We decided to try Alice May having perused their menu earlier in the day, when we arrived the restaurant was full (oh no we thought). We went in and enquired, were given a warm welcome and were told a table would be ready in 15-20 mins. We were happy to wait and had a drink at the bar.

We didn't end up waiting all that long and were shown to our table. The service was friendly and I thoroughly enjoyed my fish of the day dish which was a Monkfish dish - one of the best meals out I had while in NZ, I should have asked for the recipe. We left full and happy and I thought the food was very reasoably priced too. Woudl highly recommend.

We decided on Alice Mays as it was the cheapest and nicest looking of the bunch. All restaurants seemed to have a similar menu. We hit happy hour so got a free drink which was a nice touch. The waitresses were nice, however it took about 45mins to receive our roast and burger, and there were only 1 other couple in the restaurant when we ordered. The meals were tasty, and filled the spot.
