Food is really great. We ordered pork roast and beef stew. Both are yummy and hearty. It's the most decent meal we've had since Greymouth and Fox Glacier.

However, the service is really slow. Even asking for water has taken a lot of time.

The Alice May is a quaint little pub with fantastic atmosphere. Its old school as opposed to The Landing down the road which is a lot more modern. The Wi-Fi is a bit slow but the beer is cold and the service is warm and friendly.

We arrived at Alice mays after a 4.5hr drive and booking in to resort next door.
Ordered a bottle of wine and sat in the lounge area to relax pre dinner which was very cosy and comfortable.
No offer of menu from staff or of any water so we were pretty underwhelmed and decided to go elsewhere for some food, we walked to another establishment for our dinner.
After dining we went back to Annie mays for more food and drink,
When we arrived I ordered a mains and a side with a bottle of wine .
We sat once again in the lounge and we're joined by a woman who was travelling from USA .
No wine or food arrived ... 45 min then waiter came and offered water and asked us to keep our conversation down!
It was not subtle in a full restaurant and I was not only offended but also most embarassed , we promptly cancelled our food order and apologised to other patrons before leaving.
Worst experience ever !!!!!

This is the 2nd time I have been to this restaurant and have thoroughly enjoyed both visits. It's warm and cosy with excellent service. I had Arancini Balls for entree, which were lovely - and the Beef Cheeks for main course, they were moist and extremely tender with a lovely tasty sauce. My son opted for the 3 course special, great value soup, roast and sticky date pudding all for $30.00. All cooked nicely and tasted great. Especially the sticky date pudding which I had to help him with!!! :) I highly recommend this restaurant for good value tasty food cooked well!!

The food was delicious, presentation was of a high standard. Reasonable price and good size meals. We enjoyed the ambience and would eat here next time we visit Franz Josef.
