If money allows, you must take a helicopter trip to see the Franz Josef Glacier also the Fox Glacier.During the flight you will see Mount Cook and also Mount Tasmin. The flight only takes 30 minutes, but you will have at least 10 minutes walking on the glacier.A camera is a must ,to take photos during the flight and also on the glacier.Do not miss it.

Overall, you have to spend 325 dollar to take the helicopter to the hill and a tour guide who will guide you to the glacier. If you ever see any snow mountain or snow field before! You may give a try or else I would recommend you go to play ski on other better snow moutain

We did the heli hike. About 3 minutes worth of absolutely beautiful scenery of the glacier from a distance and green hills. When you arrive to the glacier, it's surreal. Absolutely surreal. You walk for about 3 hours and its well worth it. Crew are nice, funny and show strong and confident leadership. Amazing.

The glacier has retreated and it is not possible to get really close. They do their best to keep the track to the glacier open but its still about 500m to the edge when you get to the end of the track.

We visited a lot of iSite in new zealand and they were all very friendly and helpful except this one. We asked an asian woman about information and availability about a heliflight after we decided not to book a flight cause there was just the most expensive one left, she started to get offensive and embarrassed us in front of other people.
