We had passed here on a previous visit to Franz Josef and had promised if we returned to make this our stopover and we are so glad we did. Bernie is a lovely hostess who sat with us on arrival and gave us all the recent news of the area and answered our questions about her striking home and the work which had obviously been lovingly bestowed. on it. This is very apparent in the bedrooms with their own ensuite both beautifully decorated and very comfortable.
after consulting with Bernie and going over the menus provided we settled on a meal at the Blue Ice Cafe which was excellent. On return we sat in the cosy, wood panelled front room with a glass of port courtesy of our hosts. A perfect end to the evening. In the morning we had breakfast at the large wooden dining table, a generous selection of jams, cereals fruit and yoghurt while Gerard cooked up a storm in the adjoining kitchen

We recently stayed here while travelling round the South Island and loved it - Bernie is a great host, really nice to chat to and full of great recommendations for sight seeing and dining, she can help you sort anything out. House is lovely, quiet and the rooms are great, really comfortable and well appointed. Excellent breakfast selection, especially very tasty coffee! Franz Josef is a great place to visit, we especially enjoyed our meal at the Blue Ice restaurant and the helicopter to the glacier was a highlight, and at the moment you get free entry to the hot tubs afterwards which was a great end to the day. Thanks for such a nice stay, we miss New Zealand!

We recently stayed at Holly Homestead and Bernie and Gerard could not have been more welcoming. The house is beautiful, warm and extremely clean. Bernie welcomed us with drinks and snacks on arrival and then in the morning a buffet and home cooked breakfast was waiting. Bernie is a wealth of knowledge on the local area and wildlife which was very interesting. We would highly recommend Holly Homestead as the place to stay in Franz Joseph

"Nomen est Omen"... The B&B's name is more than an indication, its a promise! You are looking for a gem in a historic house, a charming room furnished with mindful care, a cosy bed, a beautiful bathroom with nicely selected toileteries, a focus on environmental friendly hospitality and that all kept spotlessly clean? Then Holly Homestead is the place to chose... Add hosts Bernie and Gerald that give you all the attention and hospitality you could only wish for - and would normally only get from close family - and you will charish the place as if it were a castle.

We have travelled a fair share and were fortunate being able to stay in many wonderful hotels and residences across the globe, but all of them would find it hard to compete with Bernie and Gerald and their beautiful home. Returning back from an active day, we were welcomed with a drink and personalized recommendations where to dine and what could be done next. After a refreshing shower in the astonishingly beautiful bathroom using the carefully selected toileteries we were ready to head for a great meal. Bernie even offered us to provide a lift into town and fetch us again to allow for a drink at dinner. Upon return we were welcomed with a glas of Port as a Good Night cap on the way to bed. In case your partner happens to snore, no issue either as Bernie has some earplugs ready at the beadside.
Breakfast is Gerald's domain and it is fair to say that we were offered the richest and most nicely prepared dishes we were served in a B&B anywhere in the world.
We highly recommend you to make this your HOME at Franz Josef. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Ask for the King Deluxe or the Suite if you look for a spacious room

Warm welcome from the hosts with good advice about the options for activities and eating in the local area. Rooms very well appointed and with excellent bathrooms. Its on the outskirts of the town which was good for us but might be less convenient if you don't have your own transport. Would certainly recommend it to anyone passing through Franz Josef on a quick stop.

The hosts were incredibly friendly and accommodating and made us feel welcome as soon as we walked through the door. The breakfast was a friendly affair with freshly made bread, jams and fruit salads as well as plenty of choices from the cooked food menu.
The rooms are well presented and comfortable with lovely views from all Windows. I would truly recommend this as a stop over for anyone during their time in New Zealand

A really lovely place to stay. The room was very nice and spotlessly clean. The toiletries were great and the chocolate in the room a nice touch. Bernie was very helpful in every respect and we really enjoyed our breakfast here, as well as the drinks and home made biscuits. A really thoughtful touch was the list of places to see on the road to Wanaka (our next destination). Definitely a great place to stay in Franz Josef

Room Tip: The cheapest room was lovely and cosy. No need to go for a more expensive room unless you need lots...
