Very nice home with excellent accommodations. All the small details for a very comfortable stay are provided. Bernie was very well prepared with suggestions for activities and dining covered. I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay asich as we did.

We arrived on a rainy afternoon after driving over Arthurs pass from Christchurch. We were greeted at our car with an umbrella and invited in to the lounge where there was a nice warm fire in the fireplace. Our hostess reviewed with us the options available in Franz Josef for dinner. Our room was very nicely appointed and our breakfast the next morning was cooked to order by Gerard. All in all a very pleasant stay

Bernie was a very good host and welcomed us on arrival with tea and biscuits
There was a glowing fire in the wood burner Very welcoming as it was cold and wet outside!

We were nearing the end of our 16 day New Zealand adventure when we arrived at Holly Homestead. The spring rains and fog had finally caught up with us and we weren't able to take our helicopter trip. However, we could not have been in a better place and under the circumstances, had a more enjoyable experience to cap off our travels. Bernie gave us a warm welcome. After settling into our very spacious and spotless room at the front of the house, we joined her in the front room. Over a glass of wine, by the burning fireplace, we had an opportunity to ask all those questions that had accumulated and gain insights Into the country we were visiting. The next morning we were able to share time with both of our hosts, and then we reluctantly left to travel to Christchurch for the flight home. Of the many places we stayed, Holly Homestead was a unique and gracious home that gave us one last memorable, special experience in New Zealand,

The Holly Homestead is a beautiful old home with a lot of history and is perfect for a B&B. The owners are a married couple who bought the place about fifteen years ago. Bernie, our hostess, told us that they've slowly over the years made various improvements until it's at it's current state. The room we had was large and comfortable with double paned insulated windows. The attached bathroom had a lovely floor warmer. The house itself is large and has the charm of the old but with all the modern amenities. The large kitchen and dining area is perfect for multiple guests and after unpacking Bernie sat down with us and fed us a snack and tea and went over the local area with us, giving us helpful suggestions about what to do in the area as well as menus of several local restaurants. The breakfast portion of the Bed & Breakfast was a delicious spread or fruits and yogurt, cheese, toast, poached eggs, tomatoes and bacon cooked by Bernie's husband and more. We would definitely stay here again.

We had passed here on a previous visit to Franz Josef and had promised if we returned to make this our stopover and we are so glad we did. Bernie is a lovely hostess who sat with us on arrival and gave us all the recent news of the area and answered our questions about her striking home and the work which had obviously been lovingly bestowed. on it. This is very apparent in the bedrooms with their own ensuite both beautifully decorated and very comfortable.
after consulting with Bernie and going over the menus provided we settled on a meal at the Blue Ice Cafe which was excellent. On return we sat in the cosy, wood panelled front room with a glass of port courtesy of our hosts. A perfect end to the evening. In the morning we had breakfast at the large wooden dining table, a generous selection of jams, cereals fruit and yoghurt while Gerard cooked up a storm in the adjoining kitchen

We recently stayed here while travelling round the South Island and loved it - Bernie is a great host, really nice to chat to and full of great recommendations for sight seeing and dining, she can help you sort anything out. House is lovely, quiet and the rooms are great, really comfortable and well appointed. Excellent breakfast selection, especially very tasty coffee! Franz Josef is a great place to visit, we especially enjoyed our meal at the Blue Ice restaurant and the helicopter to the glacier was a highlight, and at the moment you get free entry to the hot tubs afterwards which was a great end to the day. Thanks for such a nice stay, we miss New Zealand!
