Our villa was very roomy, with a real homely feel to it. We were given a tour of our villa by one of the very helpful reception staff, who offered us use of a close horse when she knew we were doing the glacier walk. The double bed was down stairs, with a further 3 single beds in the upstairs bed room, so good if you are in a larger group. Would have been even nicer if the double was upstairs as this room looked out via a opening to the mountains,(more romantic), but I understand why they put the singles up there as the room is a bit biger. The villa had good cooking facilities, and a very modern spacious bathroom. The villa itself is a short drive into Franz Josef, so very easy to get into town.

A great added bonus of staying here are the goats, very cute!

We chose it because it can accomodate 5 of us. 5 months ago when I chose the villa in google map, it indicated it as right in the town, but it is another 5 km away. The location is secluded and quiet. The units are all individual villa, own free parking right at the door step. Downstairs spacious living, kitchen, master bedroom and bathroom. Upstairs a bedroom with 3 single beds. The bedroom upstairs sit on top of the master bedroom and bathroom, whereas on top of the living room is void. Just outside the living room is a veranda which has a table and some chairs. It has a private playground shared by all units, with a trampoline and a electric? car in a playbox.

Microwave and oven are provided. The stuffs look pretty new and well maintained. There is even a small storeroom with ironing board and misc. The glass shower in the bathroom has no door, but the shower head is positioned such that water is contained with the glass cubicle. Beds were semi soft and hard, just nice for us.

We like the total privacy as a standalone villa. Dislike is the distance to town.

We recently stopped here for 1 night to visit the glaciers on our way through to Wanaka. We really enjoyed our stay. Our villa was modern, clean and comfortable with a fully equipped kitchen and nice big walk in shower. While the bedroom was relatively small with just the basics, this was compensated for by the rest of the apartment being quite large.

The staff were really friendly and helpful and recommended places to visit and restaurants to eat at. It was only a 5 minute drive to the main centre of Franz Josef. Admittedly it was a little expensive relative to other places we stayed on our trip - they seem to start their peak season earlier than most. But despite this, it was by far the nicest place we saw online when booking and we would definitely recommend it.

This place is just on the state highway on the Greymouth side of Franz Josep, about 3km outside the town. It is adjacent to the road so you do get road noise, but the road, typical of New Zealand is not that busy. It didn't cause a problem or keep us awake at night. There is a property about 150 metres away where they have a helicopter, that caused more disruption when taking off at 7am than any traffic noise did.
The villas are in good order, plenty big enough have an open lounge/dining area/kitchenette. The Bathroom is big, clean and well fitted out. There is one large heater in the main lounge which seemed adequate, it became a little cold on one day.
The villas are serviced daily.
There is a laundry room on site.
Wi-fi is available at $4 for 30 mins, I think.
We only saw one member of staff, the receptionist who was really nice and helpful throughout.
There are a small number of eating places in Franz Josep.
We stayed for 2 nights so we could do some walking to the Glacier.
Not cheap, but as mentioned before there is not a lot of options close by and I think it's location does let it down a little otherwise nice villas.

Stayed for just one night in a one bedroom villa. The place was actually better that we'd expected - the bathroom and bedroom were really good, bathroom especially was modern and quite spacious. The living room was pretty good although a bit more Travelodge-like (UK budget hotel chain). I wouldn't agree with the website's claim that it's luxury accommodation ( I think luxury means something different to New Zealanders!) but it isn't at all bad. We had a villa that faced the road though so was little a bit noisy. It's quite expensive for what you get but since there isn't a massive choice of accommodation in Franz-Josef they have a bit of a captive audience!

7 friends stayed for 2 nights in 2 villas......Very clean and comfortable however found it a bit out of the way especially going out for dinner. Also get them to check your room before you depart, when we arrived back in Australia we noticed they had taken an extra $30 off our credit card claiming we had taken their products. This was definitely not true. Even after a phone call they would not believe us....Not a bad scheme for them if they do this to some of their visitors to the villas....

Glenfern Villas provide clean, well appointed family self contained accommodation. Not particularly luxurious but nicely set out out and without pretence.

The barbeque was a bit of an issue - there is only one shared between the villas. When we asked as to its location, we were directed to the villa that had it last. We eventually found it though. It had one wheel and it was necessary to carry it back to our villa for dinner.

The location and views were great.
