MD. Sanbis Resort and Solomon Connect Ltd
Outstanding location and the loveliest team of people care for your dining and accommodation.
We thrived on fruit, fish and vegies.
Nice safe snorkeling and mild temperatures.
Be prepared for some communication challenges as 2nd languages are not strong and these lovely people have a habit of nodding and saying yes when they haven't got a clue!
Be prepared for saltwater only showers (this was disappointing) however they were hot.
Watch out for Solomon airlines baggage control issues (our bags sent on later flight!)
In all we had a great time and will remember it always
We would definitely return Thank you to the beautiful staff
Last review totally bogus IMHO Was at the resort at that time and that " couple " were not.
Looks like a competitor shafting a great operator. Not hard to work out who
Hopefully trip advisor will pull it down soon.
Will post our own report as soon as we settle back after a fantastic holiday.
Just last night got back to Honiara from Sanbis were I celebrated my 50th birthday and had a great 4 nights stay which included 4 dives and a trip to Skull Island. The staff at the resort and the dive master and guide to Skull Island were all great and really knew their stuff about the local history and places of interest. Food was outstanding but best of all was the pizza form the wood fired oven. A small problem with the water at the moment due to a problem with the well but thats in the process of being rectfied. Would recommend the resort to anyone looking for an out of the way small quiet place to stay.
We were the grumpy old english couple. We admit to making a mistake in choosing Sanbis, especially after UEPI. We really love snorkelling and as I am disabled, had hoped to have a magic visit to this resort. Access to the reef was difficult, as the little beaches were cluttered with debris, but we did manage to get on the reef, which despite recent natural disasters, was beautiful. Unfortunately the behaviour of a guest with a powerful Jetski boat, towing his various sons (some under 12) in 3 kayaks at high speed over and round and round on the reef where we swam, destroyed the pretence of environmental conservation and made us, yes, very grumpy. The screaming, noise and disturbance destroyed the peace for us.
The food, including the great pizzas, was excellent, and the staff, excluding the Manager, could not have been more pleasant and helpful. We paid extra for Christmas, but nothing festive was laid on. Definitely a resort for honeymooners and young people diving, but not for oldies like us.
One simply can't win them all...
In fact we, after two days of irrational behaviour, a few of the other guests and I were discussing the option of making you an offer to move you to the Gizo Hotel instead for free and we marginally decided against it.
I must admit, I am not a fan of jet skis either (we dont own any jet skis) but again, it was nowhere near the situation you describe and I even gave you a free night after you very agressively suggested that you wont pay for your stay.
Whishing you more luck with your next holiday!
Regards - Hans
We stayed at Sanbis a few days ago. I really loved the place! The bungalows are clean and the property is well maintaint and eco-friendly. It was our first resort in the Solomon what gave us a western luxury feeling!
The only downside I can think of is that they have a bit of a problem with the fresh water wells, where they get the water for the shower an toilet from. The water is a bit salty, also in the shower. But they are working on that problem right now so hopefully this will be a problem of the past soon.
The lonely planet wrote that is was a very expensive place, but that is not totally correct. A double bungalow costs about SD 1450,-. We did not have a mealplan but yust ordered whenever we wanted to eat or drink and the restauarant / bar prices are normal priced.
I would recommend this place to friends and family!
Oh, and one last thing. They have a lodge also. This is a house with everything on it and you can rent that whole house and stay there with for example with some friends. I don't know the price of it but it looked very nice with private jetty, bubblebath etc.
